The coin’s design shows a young Jobs thoughtfully looking out over the hills of Northern California, a fitting image for someone who combined creativity with technology to change how we communicate.

A new collectible coin honoring Steve Jobs will be available to the public on May 12th. The coin features Jobs and the quote “Make Something Wonderful,” which comes from a 2007 meeting where he urged his team to create great products that benefit people. According to Mint Director Paul Hollis, the coin is a formal recognition of Jobs’ worldwide influence and his significant role in California’s history of innovation. Only 25,950 of these coins will be made available to the public, making them quite rare.

People who collect coins or are interested in technology can buy these special coins directly from the government. They can choose between bags of 100 coins for $154.50 or rolls of 25 coins for $61.00, made at either the Philadelphia or Denver mints. To prevent resellers from buying them all up quickly, each household can only purchase a maximum of 10 items. The front of each coin features the Statue of Liberty, along with a Liberty Bell and a special mark – “250” – to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the United States.

Steve Jobs will be featured in a new series of commemorative coins, joining other influential figures who have shaped American history. The program, launched in 2018, honors groundbreaking achievements from each state, territory, and the District of Columbia with its own unique dollar coin. In 2026, California will celebrate Jobs’ contributions to technology, alongside coins honoring Iowan agricultural scientist Norman Borlaug, Wisconsin’s Cray-1 supercomputer, and Minnesota’s pioneering work in mobile refrigeration.
