Few sitcoms have achieved the lasting popularity of The Office, known for its memorable lines and unique comedic style. While many have attempted to replicate its success, The Office has seen numerous remakes around the world, with a recent version delighting fans. Unlike simply copying the original, The Paper offered a fresh, contemporary take on the format.

The Paper Season 2 Will Follow the Same Pattern as Season 1

Peacock announced at NBCUniversal’s presentation on Monday that the new season of The Paper will premiere in September. This timing mirrors the first season’s launch, which began streaming on Peacock on September 4th.

The show’s second season will likely premiere around the same time as the first, following comments from co-creator Greg Daniels – also known for creating The Office. He hinted at ideas for Season 2 even before the show was officially renewed, and the renewal now confirms its return timeframe.

The show’s lead mentioned they expect to start filming another season sometime between January and February 2026.

What Happens in The Paper?

The new show The Paper is a spin-off of The Office with a mostly new cast. It follows a new workplace with the same documentary film crew as the original series, and also includes a returning character – Oscar Martinez, played by Oscar Nuñez.

This new comedy series is set in the world of a struggling Midwestern newspaper, much like the previous show. But instead of focusing on the business of selling newspapers, this one centers on the stories themselves and what gets printed.

The story begins with Ned Sampson, who used to sell toilet paper, unexpectedly becoming the editor-in-chief of the Toledo Truth Teller newspaper. He’s tasked with reviving the struggling paper using a team of inexperienced volunteer reporters, all while facing resistance from the newspaper’s existing management and its online counterpart, TTT Online.

The first season of the show was well-received by critics, earning an 85% approval rating and a ‘Certified Fresh’ badge. They highlighted the show’s funny character interactions and suggested it has the potential to be as successful as the original sitcom, though some areas still need improvement. Viewers gave it a 70% rating, indicating a positive response overall.
