Amandaland boss shares update on season 3 after “unexpected” win at the BAFTAs

Though the second season of Amandaland just launched, its creator and head writer, Holly Walsh, has hinted that a third season might be in the works.

The comedy series Motherland took home the award for Best Scripted Comedy at the BAFTA TV Awards last night. It won against Big Boys, How Are You? It’s Alan (Partridge), and Things You Should Have Done. You can find a complete list of winners here.

After the show’s win, Jenna Walsh told Digital Spy and other media that a third season isn’t confirmed, but she hopes this award will increase the chances of it being commissioned.

Lucy Punch, the show’s lead actress, described the win as a complete surprise and a wonderful moment. Meanwhile, Walsh believes she knows the reason behind the show’s current success.

Honestly, the cast is what makes this show so great. Joanna Lumley is just incredible – she’s a total queen and somehow made all of us funnier just by being around!

“She’s just incredible to watch perform, and I think we all learned a million things from her.”

She concluded: “It’s just loads of middle age women being stupid, what more do you want to watch?”

As well as its award success, Amandaland has been a hit in the ratings.

The BBC announced that the Amandaland Christmas special was the most-watched comedy in the UK last year, attracting 7.4 million viewers over 28 days. It was also the second most popular program viewed on Christmas Day.

Digital Spy’s review praised the new season as a funny, clever comedy about the challenges of parenthood, navigating mid-life, and what it’s like to be a woman – calling it both hilarious and endlessly quotable.

Okay, seriously, season two of Amandaland is amazing. It’s right up there with Derry Girls – both are easily the funniest, most well-written comedies with female leads that I’ve seen in ages. It totally deserves to be talked about in the same breath!

Diane Morgan, known for her role in Motherland, won’t be appearing in the upcoming Amandaland. However, fans can look forward to her new BBC sitcom, Ann Droid, which is set to premiere soon, and first-look photos have just been released.

New episodes of Amandaland season 2 are on every Wednesday at 9pm on BBC One. You can also watch the entire season right now on iPlayer.

The latest issue of Living Legends, a beautiful, full-color 100-page tribute to Sir David Attenborough, is now available! You can purchase it at newsstands or online.
