Avowed, Grounded Developer Obsidian Reportedly Working on 4 New Games

Obsidian Entertainment, a well-known game studio owned by Xbox, is reportedly working on four new games. This is good news for Xbox, which has recently received criticism from gamers. These new titles could help improve Xbox’s relationship with its player base.

Obsidian Entertainment is one of my favorite RPG developers, and it’s pretty cool how it started. Back in 2003, it was founded by some folks from Black Isle Games right before that studio shut down. They quickly made a name for themselves with amazing games like Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic 2: The Sith Lords and Neverwinter Nights 2. Things just kept getting better, and when Microsoft bought them in 2018, they really hit their stride with titles like The Outer Worlds, Grounded, and Pentiment. But 2025 was huge for them – they released Avowed, The Outer Worlds 2, and even Grounded 2 all in one year! It’s been awesome watching them grow.

Obsidian Reportedly Has 4 Games Lined Up for Xbox

Obsidian Entertainment, the studio behind three recently released games, is already working on even more projects. According to industry insider Jez Corden of Windows Central, four new games are currently in development. These games will vary in scope, ranging from smaller experiences to larger, more ambitious titles. We might get a first look at some or all of these projects at the Xbox Developer Direct showcase on January 22nd, but until then, fans are eagerly anticipating what Obsidian has in store.

Fans are wondering if Obsidian Entertainment might develop a future Fallout game. While Bethesda, also owned by Microsoft, has led the Fallout franchise for nearly 20 years and will likely handle Fallout 5, Obsidian has a strong history with the series. Key members of the Obsidian team, including CEO Feargus Urquhart and CIO Darren Monahan, worked on early Fallout titles. The recent hiring of Tim Cain, a creator of the original Fallout games, in December suggests Obsidian might get the opportunity to develop another game in the post-apocalyptic world.

Todd Howard, a lead at Bethesda Game Studios, might have subtly hinted at Obsidian Entertainment returning to work on the Fallout series. When asked about potential remasters of Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas, Howard said Bethesda has “a lot of things in the works” that they’ll announce when ready. While not a direct promise of remasters, this comment came shortly after Obsidian’s announcement that Kim Swift was returning to the studio, leading some to speculate about a possible collaboration. Obsidian originally developed Fallout: New Vegas, so their involvement would make sense.

Beyond Fallout, Obsidian Entertainment has a number of potential projects based on their previous games, and they might also announce something completely new. A new KOTOR game seems unlikely, as Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic is being developed by a different studio. Another South Park RPG is also probably not in the works, as the story from The Stick of Truth has already been continued in two games made by studios other than Obsidian. However, both The Outer Worlds and Grounded were successful enough to warrant sequels planned for 2025. Plus, it’s been several years since the last Pillars of Eternity game (2018), and Pentiment could also be a candidate for a follow-up.
