Look, I’m a huge fan of The Elder Scrolls, but let’s be real – it feels like the series has been coasting on the success of Skyrim for ages. It’s been almost 15 years since that game came out, and we’re still waiting for a proper new installment. It’s getting a little frustrating as a fan!
I just saw something on YouTube that seriously has me hyped for 2026 – it looks like it could be a real contender for game of the year! Honestly, it’s giving me something awesome to look forward to while we all still wait for The Elder Scrolls 6.
The Elder Scrolls 6? Who Needs It?
It’s Potentially Years Away

Skyblivion is a complete remake of the game Oblivion, built using the engine from Skyrim. A dedicated team has been working on this ambitious project – known as a “total conversion” mod because it essentially rebuilds the entire game – since 2012. After more than a decade of development, the team is now nearing completion.
Rebelzize, the lead on the Skyblivion project, recently announced that the game’s release will be delayed until 2026. As a fan-made project, the team wants to make sure it meets player expectations. However, there’s good news too! They’ve launched a new interactive map that lets you explore the completed world of Cyrodiil, from the Jerall Mountains to the Gold Coast, while you wait.
After years of development, the Skyblivion project – a complete remake of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion – is almost finished, taking roughly as long as it would for Bethesda to release a new game. This ambitious project features the level of detail you’d expect from a professional game studio, including a public roadmap outlining future updates. It’s happening alongside the Skywind project, which is recreating The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind in a similar way.
Skyblivion Looks So Promising
It Looks Like An Official Release

The team is almost finished with Skyblivion. According to their latest video update, the world map is completely done, and they’ve released an interactive map so you can see everything they’ve created. All the dungeons for quests are also finished – they’ve been completely rebuilt with challenging boss fights and better rewards than the original game.
We’ve completed work on all the major cities, and a lot of them have even been updated. Currently, we’re focusing on finishing up a few remaining tasks.
- 3D assets for the Imperial Palace
- Quest finalization
- Finalizing nav mesh, which allows NPCs to wander around, followed by quality assurance tests
- The addition of “low priority assets”
- The final fight cinematic
The team also has a list of “post-release features” they want to add:
- Spellcrafting
- UI reskin (to be more like Oblivion)
- Dynamic dungeons
- Grave robbing
- Creature variety
- More followers
- Extra unique items
- Additional spells
Bethesda doesn’t need to rush the next Elder Scrolls game. The passionate modding community will keep fans entertained in the meantime, creating everything from small improvements to huge, completely new experiences like the Skyblivion project.
