Despite being called “charmeless” and even “staggeringly stupid” by some, the heist thriller High Rollers is currently popular in the UK. It’s a follow-up to the 2024 film Cash Out, and John Travolta returns as Mason Goddard, a skilled thief.
In the next installment, Mason must attempt a risky casino robbery when his enemy kidnaps the woman he loves, Amelia (Gina Gershon).
Okay, so the movie’s about this incredibly skilled thief, played by John Travolta, and his world gets turned upside down when someone kidnaps the woman he loves, Gina Gershon. To get her back, he and his team have to attempt this crazy, elaborate casino heist. It sounds super tense and exciting!

Despite receiving negative reviews when it first came out in 2025, this heist film is now proving popular with viewers and is currently the second most-watched movie on Prime Video in the UK, according to FlixPatrol.
Lukas Haas, Quavo, Natali Yura, Demián Castro, and Danny Pardo join John Travolta and Debi Gershon in the film’s cast.
The movie High Rollers has been almost universally panned by critics. It currently has a very low 20% score on Rotten Tomatoes, based on 10 reviews, with many describing the writing as messy and uninspired.

The Guardian called High Rollers a remarkably bad and unengaging film, describing it as ineptly made and incredibly dull. They noted, however, that its many flaws were so glaring they were almost comical.
According to Cambridge Day, Travolta, Gershon, Castro, and Pardo all convincingly play their simple characters, making the scenes they appear in feel more believable.
The movie suffers from a weak and messy plot, made even worse by a poorly written script and direction.
According to Radio Times, the movie’s script is still weak, although the actors seem to understand their roles better, and John Travolta appears to be having fun.

According to Spectrum Culture, this sequel is a boring and unremarkable retread of familiar tropes, ultimately leaving no lasting impact.
Okay, so I just finished watching this new heist thriller, and honestly, it’s…almost really good! It’s a lot like the first one, Cash Out, in that it’s fun and easy to watch, but you definitely have to switch your brain off a little. It’s a light, likable movie, but it felt like they rushed things and didn’t quite stick the landing a few times. It’s a bit of a missed opportunity, really.
High Rollers is streaming on Prime Video in the UK.
The latest issue of Living Legends is out now, and this edition honors music superstar Dolly Parton! You can purchase ‘Dolly at 80’ at newsstands or online for only £8.99.
