As a huge sci-fi fan, I’ve been so excited about this rediscovered show – it really reminds me of the brilliant Firefly, that space western we all adore. It also has echoes of the more recent Project Hail Mary, which I loved. Firefly first came out in 2002 and quickly became a favorite, but it was tragically canceled by Fox after just one season – the fans were not happy! We got a bit of closure with the Serenity movie in 2005, but for 24 years, we’ve been hoping for more. Finally, the news broke that Firefly is coming back as an animated series, and I couldn’t be happier!

With the news that Firefly is being revived, fans are now eagerly awaiting its return. The show is still in the early stages of development, so there’s no confirmed release date yet – animated shows often take a significant amount of time to produce. Rocky and Ryland influence each other, and the crew in Dark Matter struggles to define themselves both individually and as a group. Despite being revealed as the galaxy’s most dangerous criminals, their memory loss gives them a chance to start over. The show also incorporates elements reminiscent of Stargate.

While Dark Matter shares similarities with other space operas, it stands out with a much more intense and realistic feel. It’s most comparable to Battlestar Galactica, as both shows have a subtle but unsettling horror element.
