This Upcoming Indie Game Is Perfect If You Liked Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2’s Vibes, But Not Its Mechanics

2025 has seen a surprisingly diverse range of games. This is partly because many large, highly anticipated titles were delayed until next year, likely to avoid competing with the release of GTA 6. However, even among the games that were released, there’s a noticeable trend towards more originality and personality. Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 is a prime example of a major game taking a unique approach.

Many games prioritize making things easy for the player, but this often results in experiences that aren’t very memorable. They tend to handle all the challenges for you, removing any real difficulty, and ultimately become easily forgotten. Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 is different.

Expect challenging horseback rides and a lot of hands-on crafting – there are no easy ways out. While it shares similarities with the first game, it’s still a pretty unique experience. These demanding aspects kept the original game’s fans engaged, but they can also be frustrating for new players. However, a game coming in 2026 aims to capture the feel of Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, but with less repetitive work.

Blight: Survival Could Be The Surprise Package Of 2026

Blight isn’t meant to be a direct sequel to Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2. It’s a fast-paced, cooperative action horror game for up to four players (and playable solo) focused on survival. While very different from the slower pace of KCD2, it aims to capture a similar feeling, as the developers don’t anticipate another game quite like KCD2 being released anytime soon. This is their attempt to create something comparable.

This game’s PvE mode is set in a medieval world similar to the one in Kingdom Come: Deliverance. It features two kingdoms constantly at war, fueled by a deadly plague that creates zombie-like creatures roaming the land. Players must use historically accurate weapons to fight back against these creatures and the opposing kingdom.

I’m really excited for God Save Birmingham, coming out in 2026! It looks like it’s going to give us another dose of medieval zombie action, though it’s not super strict about historical accuracy – and that’s totally fine with me, honestly. It seems like a fun take on the genre!

If you found Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 a bit too complex, Blight: Survival might be a good option for exploring the same world. While it’s still a challenging game with detailed systems – it’s a PvE extraction shooter, after all – it should be a more accessible way to experience that setting.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance Cannot Lose Its Personality, Even If That Makes It Hard To Play

I’m not suggesting that Blight: Survival is trying to be a simpler version of the sequel to Kingdom Come: Deliverance, and it shouldn’t. Many games feature medieval settings. However, last year, a lot of people expressed wanting to enjoy the KCD sequel but felt something was missing. Blight: Survival could potentially deliver the experience those players were hoping for.

The biggest mistake the developers of Kingdom Come: Deliverance 3 could make is trying to appeal to a wider audience at the expense of what makes the game special. While there are other concerns about the studio’s direction, this is a major risk. Monster Hunter Wilds attempted this by simplifying the gameplay that made Monster Hunter: World so popular, hoping to attract more players, but ended up creating a game that lacked the depth fans loved.

Blight: Survival is so appealing because it lets you experience its world naturally, without forcing you to struggle. Unlike Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, it doesn’t leave you completely on your own, but it still captures the harshness of the setting. While nothing will truly compare to Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 when it releases, Blight: Survival offers a similar feel.
