Joe Taslim On Preparing For Noob Saibot’s Role In Mortal Kombat II

Many fans will recognize Joe Taslim as Sub-Zero from the 2021 Mortal Kombat movie, but he’s returning in the sequel to play a brand new, frightening character.

Many fans remember Sub-Zero’s death in the first movie, where Scorpion fatally burned him. However, that wasn’t the end for Bi-Han. He’s brought back as the undead ninja Noob Saibot thanks to the dark magic of Quan Chi, finally allowing audiences to see this iconic character on screen. Having spent years as a violent Lin Kuei assassin, Bi-Han’s transformation into Noob Saibot gives him shadow powers and a new, evil mission in the NetherRealm.

Taslim shared with ScreenRant that he studied the video game to master Noob Saibot’s fighting style before wearing the character’s famous costume.

I spent a lot of time practicing – I mastered the character’s moves and combos in the game. Then, our choreographer used those exact combos to create the fight choreography. I think this is the first time fans will see Noob Saibot actually fighting with those moves in a realistic way.

Noob Saibot has appeared in other movies, but according to Taslim, Mortal Kombat II is the first time audiences will truly see his full fighting potential.

The fights in the game are really intense, and it’s exciting because previous Mortal Kombat games featured Noob Saibot, but he didn’t really do much – he just stood around. This time, it’s a great chance to actually see him in action, and a real treat for Noob Saibot fans who will finally get to see him fighting and pulling off amazing moves.

Fans are excited about Noob Saibot joining the cast, but the sequel itself is a welcome surprise. According to actor Taslim, the positive and negative feedback on the first movie directly influenced the creation of Mortal Kombat II.

The first attempt feels like a learning experience. We really put our all into it, but with the second one, we take what we learned and, I think, pay closer attention to what fans want.

I believe the second point is accurate. It’s fantastic that we received so much feedback from Mortal Kombat fans. Because they’re so passionate about the series, all the criticism and comments helped us create a better game. And I think we succeeded. The sequel, Mortal Kombat II, is really about showing we listened to the fans and delivering a game they’ll love – it’s a thank you gift to them, thanks to the work of director Jeremy Slater, Simon, and Todd Garner.

Mortal Kombat II is now in theaters.
