It lets the story go in some really different directions. They’ve shown Peter and MJ as a married couple before in the comics, but what’s really interesting in Ultimate Spider-Man is that MJ finds out Peter’s Spider-Man really early on – she’s in the know from the start!

Mary-Jane is the heart of the story, consistently offering Peter support rather than needing to be rescued. Watching Peter and Mary Jane build a strong and healthy marriage while facing difficulties is a major strength of the series.

The Mary Jane Watson in Ultimate Spider-Man is a fresh and updated version of a character who often feels old-fashioned. The show goes beyond simply making her Spider-Man’s girlfriend; it establishes her as a strong and independent character with her own career as a marketing executive. Importantly, she becomes Spider-Man’s key ally and equal partner.

The Children of Spider-Man

The latest Spider-Man story doesn’t just focus on Mary Jane and Peter Parker’s relationship – it also shows them as parents, making family a central theme and raising the overall tension. While Spider-Man has often explored the idea of Peter and Mary Jane having children in different comic book versions, this new Ultimate series presents a fresh take on that idea.

Richard is the eldest child in the family and, after Peter Parker temporarily vanishes, he steps up as a new Spider-Man. You know, I’ve always been fascinated by May Parker. She’s Peter and MJ’s younger daughter, and while she doesn’t get as much spotlight as Richard, she’s actually super important! She’s the very first person to find out Peter is Spider-Man, which is amazing. And even more than that, she’s the reason he switched back to the classic red and blue suit after trying out the black one – she inspired him! It’s also really sweet seeing the bond between Peter and May in the story; it shows a totally different side of Spider-Man, like he’s this really loving dad, and it just makes you root for him even more.

Uncle Ben and Aunt May Switch Roles

The death of Uncle Ben is arguably the most important part of the Spider-Man story, and for years, Marvel generally avoided changing it. But with the Ultimate Spider-Man comic series, which significantly reimagined the character’s history, writer Jonathan Hickman didn’t just bring Ben back to life, he also made him a key figure in the ongoing story.

Keeping Uncle Ben alive is a bold choice, but it allows him to be a meaningful character as a journalist and a hero who fights against villains like the Kingpin – actions that stay true to the original character. J. Jonah Jameson isn’t a villain in a costume, but he’s consistently been one of Spider-Man’s biggest adversaries, using his power as a newspaper publisher. Lately, he’s become increasingly like a conspiracy theorist, mirroring some real-world trends. However, the Ultimate Spider-Man version of the character takes a different approach, portraying him as more of a hero.

J. Jonah Jameson isn’t just a Spider-Man hater in this version – he’s a journalist with strong principles. While he’s still loud and opinionated, his personality now comes from a place of genuine integrity. He begins the story working at The Daily Bugle, but eventually resigns because the Kingpin bought the paper and forced them to publish misleading articles that blamed Tony Stark for the New York City attack.

This version of the story has a surprising connection: Jameson and Uncle Ben are close friends, and their relationship quickly becomes a highlight of the comic. They both leave The Daily Bugle and start a new publication, The Paper, determined to uncover the truth about New York City. Together, they ultimately reveal Kingpin’s criminal activities. While Jameson is usually portrayed as a negative example of journalism, here he’s a positive influence thanks to Uncle Ben’s guidance.

Harry Osborn Is a New Kind of Green Goblin

Harry Osborn is a key person in Peter Parker’s life, starting as a close friend before becoming the villain Green Goblin due to pressure from his father. Traditionally, Harry has a very sad story, but in the newer Ultimate series, he plays a more positive, heroic role, similar to J. Jonah Jameson.

The story begins with Harry Osborn inheriting Oscorp after his parents and Aunt May are killed in an attack on New York City. This loss drives him to become a Green Goblin-like figure, equipped with armor similar to Iron Man’s, and he teams up with others to defeat Kingpin.

As a huge Spider-Man fan, I was really surprised by how they portrayed the Green Goblin in Ultimate Spider-Man! Instead of being enemies, they actually become close allies, and their friendship really develops throughout the show. They don’t always see eye-to-eye, but they put their disagreements aside and work together to protect New York City. It’s interesting because they still use the famous line, “with great power comes great responsibility,” but more to explain why the Goblin does things that aren’t exactly heroic – it feels like a way to justify his choices.

Gwen Stacy Is Harry’s Wife and So Much More

Gwen Stacy is a significant love interest for Peter Parker, following Mary Jane Watson. She was actually Peter’s first love and is known for one of the most famous deaths in comic book history. For a long time, Marvel avoided changing Gwen Stacy’s story, but more recently, she’s been reimagined in various ways. In Ultimate Spider-Man, for example, writer Hickman dramatically alters her path, creating a surprising twist.

Okay, so at first, Gwen seems like just Harry’s wife and the head of Oscorp, but it turns out she’s way more than that! The show reveals she’s actually one of many people who’ve taken on the role of Mysterio – it’s like a whole secret society in this version. Apparently, she got her powers and the Mysterio title from her dad before he passed away, and now she’s using them to fight against villains like Kingpin and the Maker. It’s a really cool twist!
