I’m so excited – they’ve just released a first look at Diane Morgan’s new sitcom, Ann Droid! It’s great to see her working with Paul Ready and Sarah Kendall again – I loved them all in Motherland. And even better, Sarah Kendall co-wrote this one with Diane, which promises to be hilarious!
The story takes place in 2029 and centers around Sue, played by Sue Johnston of The Royle Family, who is adjusting to life after the loss of her husband. Meanwhile, her son Michael is attempting to reconcile with his wife and is moving out to do so.
Despite his good intentions, the eldercare robot he gives her – named Morgan – turns out to be more trouble than it’s worth. Designed to help seniors and ease the burden on the healthcare system, Morgan is actually an annoyingly overbearing and awkward companion, much to Sue’s frustration.

The story reveals she quickly realizes she can use the droid to get even with people and handle tasks her son always puts off. This leads to a funny friendship between the woman and her robot, who is a technical whiz but a bit clueless when it comes to social situations.
New photos from the upcoming project have been released, offering a first glimpse of Morgan as her robotic character, Linda, alongside Johnston’s character. Ready is also featured, sporting a noticeable thick moustache.

This six-episode comedy is both smart and delightfully unpredictable, blending genuine warmth with plenty of silly fun.
