James Norton’s highest-rated drama is being removed from BBC iPlayer very soon

The popular drama Nowhere Special, featuring James Norton, will soon be removed from a UK streaming service. The film, which first came out in theaters in 2021, is considered the best work of Norton’s career so far.

In this moving drama, Hugh Norton plays John, a father diagnosed with cancer who has only a short time left to live. He dedicates his remaining months to finding a loving adoptive family for his four-year-old son, Michael, played by Daniel Lamont.

I just finished watching this amazing film by Uberto Pasolini – he wrote, produced, and directed it all! If you’re in the UK, you can stream it right now on BBC iPlayer, but you’ll need to catch it soon – it’s only available until June 1st!

The film Nowhere Special debuted at the Venice International Film Festival in September 2020 and has received high praise from critics. Currently, it holds a 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes based on 63 reviews, making it the most critically acclaimed film in director James Norton’s career.

According to Variety, director Uberto Pasolini’s film offers a gentle and compassionate look at dealing with loss, thanks to strong performances from James Norton and newcomer Daniel Lamont. LAist praised the film as moving, impactful, and exceptionally well-acted.

What to Read Next

Okay, so I just read a bunch of reviews for this movie, and everyone seems to agree it’s surprisingly uplifting, even though it deals with heavy stuff like loneliness and death. The Observer called it ‘rare and distinguished’ and said it’s tender and smart without being overly sentimental or cheesy. And the San Jose Mercury News just said it was really sensitive, which I think is a great way to put it. Sounds like a movie that actually makes you feel something, in a good way.

The Boston Globe agreed, noting that despite some lighter scenes, Nowhere Special doesn’t shy away from its sad core. The film largely focuses on the performances of John Norton and James Lamont, who both deliver strong and well-matched acting.

IndieWire also highly praised the film, noting that while the story sounds incredibly sad, director Uberto Pasolini and actor Norton brought it to life, making it a fully realized movie and not just a simple idea.

If you’re looking for something different than a family show, BBC iPlayer has lots of options. They’ve recently added the award-winning crime thriller The Silence of the Lambs, and you can also find the classic ’70s gangster film Get Carter starring Michael Caine.

Nowhere Special is streaming on BBC iPlayer until 1 June.
