Skyblivion delayed to 2026 as devs behind the unofficial Oblivion project made using Skyrim’s engine say their “initial goal” of launching this year “is no longer possible”

The creators of Skyblivion have announced a delay – the fan-made RPG needs more development time. It will now be released sometime in 2026, instead of later this year.

The team recreating Oblivion in Skyrim’s engine, known as the Elder Scrolls Renewal Project (and also working on Skywind), has been at it for 13 years. They recently announced that the project, previously expected to launch in 2025, needs more time. The developers, who are all fans themselves, want to make sure Skyblivion meets the high expectations of the community.

The team announced that the release of Skyblivion will now happen in 2026. Project lead Rebelzize explained in a video that, while the game is further along than ever before, they need more time to overcome some final hurdles. He said it was disappointing to have to move the release date from this year, but necessary to ensure the game meets their standards.

So, what were the big hurdles? Well, the world map was definitely the toughest part, but Rebelzize says it’s completely done! That’s awesome. Plus, all the quest dungeons are finished too. They’ve totally rebuilt them, giving them a unique look and feel – something you won’t find in the original Oblivion, or even the Remastered version. And honestly, with Oblivion Remastered just coming out, that’s a huge relief and a really cool thing they’ve done.

Most of the work on building interiors is complete. We’re currently waiting for the 3D models of the Imperial City to be finalized, as many indoor areas are located there. We expect everything to be finished by the end of this year, which will allow us to focus on completing quests in early 2026. The major cities, like Anvil, Bruma, and Cheydinhal, are already finished.

While there are still a few issues with how characters move around the game world, development is moving forward well. The team expects to finish the navigation for all quest areas by the end of 2025, and the entire navigation system, including testing, by early 2026. Almost all 3D models are finished, with the exception of the Imperial City and some smaller details, which they aim to complete by the end of the year.

The Elder Scrolls Renewal Project is also updating its interface to resemble Skyrim’s, and the project lead believes they’ll finish this by early 2026. Rebelzize has a detailed video covering many aspects of the Skyblivion project, including the reasons for the delay, and it’s worth watching. While the delay was unexpected, especially after hints that the game was nearly complete, it makes sense given the work still needed.

This is a really challenging project, particularly given the high hopes after Bethesda’s Oblivion remaster and everyone’s excitement for The Elder Scrolls 6. However, I believe Rebelzize and his team are up to the task and will succeed.
