A year ago, Ellen DeGeneres and her wife, Portia de Rossi, relocated to England, and they attributed the move to the influence of Donald Trump.
The American TV personality chose to make her home in the Cotswolds immediately after Donald Trump won the presidential election, explaining that she finds life ‘simply better’ in the UK.
Sources say Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi are planning to spend more time in California, as they miss their friends and don’t want to face another cold winter in the UK.
As someone who keeps a close eye on how people are living their lives, I’m hearing that Ellen DeGeneres originally planned to spend the duration of Donald Trump’s presidency living in the UK with Portia. Apparently, things have shifted, and she’s now reconsidering that plan. It just goes to show, life happens and plans change!
Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi’s friends have been told they’ll be returning home soon, as they miss their loved ones and dislike the harsh winters where they are currently living. Portia also expressed a desire to resume her acting career. It sounds like they plan to stay for the holidays and potentially even longer. De Rossi, 52, is well-known for her roles in the television series Ally McBeal and Arrested Development.
The couple, married since 2008, first moved to Kitesbridge Farm in Swinbrook, Oxfordshire. They listed the 43-acre property for sale in July with an asking price of £22.5 million.
The couple then moved to a large house on a hill with plenty of land for horses, as Portia de Rossi loves to ride. Ellen DeGeneres, 67, explained that when they decided to make the move permanent, they knew Portia needed to be able to keep her horses, so they needed a property with stables and grazing space. The home also provides ample room for their two puppies, Sport and Jinx, and their older dog, Kid.
As someone who keeps a close eye on lifestyle trends, I’m hearing from sources that Ellen and Portia are planning a return to California in the near future. Apparently, they’re really craving the sunshine and, more importantly, being closer to their friends. It sounds like they’re ready to trade whatever they’re doing for a bit of California warmth and good company!
The couple appeared to be settling into country life, as they’d been seen at local pubs like The Farmer’s Dog in Burford, which is owned by Jeremy Clarkson, and The Falkland Arms in Great Tew, Oxfordshire.
Ellen DeGeneres previously shared that she and her wife arrived in the UK just before the election. They woke up to worried messages from friends, which led her to realize the election outcome, and they decided to remain in the UK.
She also expressed concern that some American Baptist churches are attempting to undo the legalization of same-sex marriage. Ellen DeGeneres famously came out as a lesbian in 1997 on her television show, Ellen, a groundbreaking moment in television history.
She went on to host her own talk show, but it ended in 2022 following claims of bullying and a negative work atmosphere.
Ellen DeGeneres apologized in writing to her staff and also addressed the situation on her show. However, she later suggested the controversy felt unfairly focused on her gender and believed it was deliberately planned and organized.
She called the scandal ‘devastating,’ but later, in her 2024 Netflix special, For Your Approval, she made light of the situation, saying she was essentially ‘canceled’ for being ‘nasty.’
Before moving to England, the television personality made a lot of money buying and selling houses in Montecito, California – an exclusive area where Prince Harry and Meghan Markle also lived.
In March, news emerged that the couple had sold their California properties, including a small investment property for $5.2 million.
Someone close to the presenter said last night that their return to America isn’t a permanent move. The couple is going back for the holidays, but they haven’t said how long they’ll be staying.
