It’s been over 14 years since Bethesda released the incredibly popular game Skyrim, but people are still discovering new ways to play in 2025 – and now, some are even finding ways to incorporate the game’s world, Tamriel, into their actual jobs!
YouTuber habie147, famous for his funny and unpredictable VR content, attempted a truly unusual feat – doing his regular 9-to-5 job inside the video game Skyrim. He jokingly calls it turning “work from home” into “work from Whiterun.” But how did he manage it? It all started with finding the ideal location within the game.
Skyrim doesn’t have traditional offices, but habie147 found a solution: working from scenic campsites! He booted up his laptop – complete with email, Slack, and other work tools – and set his ‘main quest’ while immersed in the game. This quest includes keeping his job, scheduling marketing emails, handling some quirky tasks in QuickBooks, completing a PowerPoint presentation, and gathering contact information.
Things were going pretty smoothly until I got mugged – not cool, but whatever, the location’s still good. So, for my next workspace, I decided on… the middle of a creek, with a dragon circling overhead! It was crazy. I realized I needed a spot where random stuff couldn’t spawn, somewhere totally isolated. I figured the best place for that would be underground, completely off the map.
He went to my favorite place, Blackreach, and things went well for a couple of hours. He managed to get a lot done – collecting 55 email addresses, finishing a presentation, and even chatting with colleagues, jokingly comparing the location to a perfect meeting space. However, after being there for so long with all the ambient noise, he started to feel a little crazy.
The YouTuber headed to a mountaintop in the game Skyrim and used commands to create a stunning night sky filled with stars and the northern lights. After making a few phone calls, he simply stated, “This works.” Essentially, playing and working within the virtual world of Skyrim is a surprisingly good experience – except for the bulky VR headset. He joked that if VR headsets weren’t so cumbersome, more people would be doing this.
I completely agree with habie147. It would be amazing to have a regular job and be able to do it from a fun place like The Bannered Mare or the Evergreen Grove. My only concern is that wearing a headset for that long might become uncomfortable and a little sweaty.
