Where Winds Meet is a fantastical adventure rooted in the Wuxia tradition. It combines epic heroism with exciting, over-the-top action, a healthy dose of humor, and incredible martial arts. These elements often come together in memorable quests, like the ‘Cries In The Distance Lost Chapter’.
During this adventure, you’ll hear a known voice in the distance. Finding its source unlocks a series of mysteries, challenging puzzles, and difficult bosses – all deeply connected to the core of the game. This entire quest revolves around solving puzzles, so we’ve created this guide to help you navigate them.
How To Start The Cries In The Distance Quest

I was exploring near the Peace Bell Tower in Moonveil Mountain, Qinghe, hoping to fix the Bell of Demoncalm. But honestly, I started hearing someone calling for help! Luckily, the game has this little indicator that shows you where the sound is coming from, and it led me to a hidden cellar door. It’s tucked away in a small alcove just a little ways down the mountain – super easy to miss if you aren’t listening!
Start the quest by going through this door, then speak with Feng Jisheng, who is behind a wall again. He’ll tell you to burn the branches on the wall across from you. This will reveal a button that, when pressed, opens his wall and starts a tricky yin-yang puzzle.
Solving The Yin-Yang Puzzle

The yin-yang symbol in the middle of the room has risen, and you can now rotate it along with the four statues surrounding it – but it’s unclear what this will achieve. Feng Jisheng tells you the symbol is meant to balance Earth, Heaven, Fire, and Water. Earth and Heaven complement each other, while Fire and Water are opposing forces.
The idea behind the yin-yang symbol is to reverse the usual arrangement. We want Fire and Water to work together, while Earth and Heaven are positioned as opposites. Ultimately, the aim is to turn the Heaven and Earth statues to face away from each other, and the Fire and Water statues to face each other. But figuring out which statue represents each element can be tricky.
If you don’t read Chinese, it’s tricky, but not essential. The yin-yang symbol displays markings that correspond to the in-game directions: Heaven and Earth point north and south, while Fire and Water indicate east and west. Plus, both the symbol and the ground have lines to help you line everything up correctly.
Moving one statue can sometimes cause the statue directly across from it to turn as well. If this happens, spin the yin-yang symbol in the middle to let you move each statue separately. You’re aiming to position the Fire and Water statues on opposite sides, facing each other towards the center. You’ll know you’re on the right track when you see two circles appear on the inner ring.
Turn the yin-yang symbol once more so the Heaven and Earth statues can spin on their own, and make sure they’re facing opposite directions. If you did it right, mist will gather in the middle, flowing in from all four statues, and the yin-yang symbol will lower, uncovering a hidden room underneath.
If that seems complicated, you can simply position the statues to match the example picture above.
Exploring Tian Ying’s Dwelling

You’ll enter the room where Tian Ying lived while learning and developing Tai Chi. Now, carefully search the room – examine everything you can – to discover where he went, what happened to his research, and who else was with him.
This section is straightforward. All the items you need are right here in the room and are already highlighted. Simply interact with everything – reading them will give you background story and character details. Then, find the hidden door – it looks like a normal wall – with Feng and use the jade piece to open it. After that, you can enter the next room.
Defeating The Thick-Skinned Albino Bear

Ahead, you’ll notice what appears to be an arena, and you’d be correct. As you approach, a Thick-Skinned Albino bear appears. Feng observes that its hide is exceptionally thick, and standard attacks likely won’t harm it – and he’s right.
Tian Ying came to learn Tai Chi, and surprisingly, you first learn it by watching a bear! There are three stone piles nearby. If you throw the bear into one of these piles using Tai Chi, its health will decrease. It’s simple – just use Tai Chi to grab the bear and toss it at the rocks!
When practicing Tai Chi on the bear, position yourself generally towards the rocks. You might not have time to aim carefully before the bear throws them, so facing the right direction is important.
Once you’ve defeated the enemies, be sure to open the two smaller chests before opening the large chest to finish the quest. That’s all there is to it – you’re done!
