In Where Winds Meet, you’ll encounter many challenging bosses, including powerful World Bosses found throughout the game world and bosses tied to the main story. Early on, you might run into Puppeteer – Sheng Wu, a large enemy wielding a halberd, who wanders the northeast region of Qinghe.
Okay, so I’ve fought the Puppeteer in Where Winds Meet, and honestly, it’s one of the more manageable World Bosses. But don’t let that fool you – it’s still a challenge! I learned the hard way that going in thinking it’ll be a breeze is a mistake. I’m going to share everything I’ve figured out about this fight, like where to actually find the Puppeteer and, more importantly, how to actually beat it.
Puppeteer – Sheng Wu Boss Location

You can find Puppeteer – Sheng Wu in the northeastern part of Qinghe, roughly between Bamboo Abode and Battlecrest Slope within the Verdant Wilds. For a faster journey, use the Northern Vow Ruins, Northern Bamboo Grove, or Bamboo Retreat Boundary Stones.
Puppeteer – Sheng Wu Boss Fight Walkthrough

The Puppeteer fights using a halberd, mostly by swinging or stabbing with it. Its most basic attack is a straightforward thrust, which isn’t too hard to block. Be careful, though – the boss sometimes does this thrust twice in a row, so be prepared for that.
This weapon’s main attack involves two quick forward slashes, followed by a spinning slash, and then two more attacks that sweep upwards. Because it’s hard to block everything, it’s best to simply dodge the whole combo.
Okay, so the Puppeteer has this nasty gold attack. Basically, he winds up, then leaps into the air and comes crashing down with his halberd. It does a ton of damage over a pretty wide area. Forget trying to parry it – you just gotta dodge out of the way when you see him start charging up!
As a fan, I’ve noticed the Puppeteer does this cool, but tricky, aerial slam. It spins up into the air and then brings its weapon crashing down. The key to blocking it? You’ve gotta time your parry just as the halberd is about to hit the ground – it’s tough, but so satisfying when you nail it!
The Puppeteer fights a bit more cautiously than most bosses. It frequently defends by holding up its halberd to block attacks, and will also dodge roll to create distance. While you can damage the Puppeteer even when it’s blocking, your attacks won’t be as effective. Be warned: the Puppeteer might counterattack with a quick push while blocking, so don’t get too greedy with your attacks!
Phase 2

Once you’ve reduced the Puppeteer’s health to zero for the first time, two smaller puppet helpers will spawn. These helpers can only attack whatever is directly in front of them, so be mindful of their positioning. You need to defeat both of these minions to reopen the boss and be able to damage it again.
During this stage, the boss will learn a couple of new attacks. They’re generally similar to what you’ve already seen, but with either a new attack added or a small change to how the animations look.
The boss now has a main attack where it swings its weapon in a wide arc, hitting everything around it. If you’re not sure you can block every hit, dodging is probably the safer choice, just like before.
Okay, so the boss is going to do this really obvious red attack where it winds up with its halberd and then charges right at you! If you can parry it at just the right moment, you’ll get a huge opening to really mess up its Qi meter. It’s a big damage opportunity, so definitely try to learn the timing!
The Puppeteer occasionally spins its weapon above its head, creating a powerful whirlwind that pulls you closer. To avoid this attack, use the Cloud Step Mystic Art to jump onto the boss’s head.
The Puppeteer’s strongest attack is risky because, while it’s quick to start, it involves three overhead slams with predictable timing. This makes it possible to block all three hits if you time it right, but failing to block even one will result in significant damage.
The second part of this battle is much like the first: block or deflect attacks whenever possible, avoid the ones you can’t, and gradually reduce the boss’s health until you win.
