In Where Winds Meet, there’s a really expensive cosmetic item – it can cost as much as a new car, making it a major status symbol.
The free-to-play game Where Winds Meet quickly became a success, attracting two million players within its first day. The game is set in ancient China and focuses on martial arts.
Where Winds Meet is quickly becoming a hit on Steam, ranking among the top 10 most popular games thanks to its beautiful scenery, challenging boss battles inspired by the Souls series, and surprisingly fun mini-games.
Where Winds Meet currently makes money only through cosmetic items, and one outfit is particularly pricey – it can cost up to $42,000, depending on rarity.

The ‘Celestial Immortal’ skin is a special, high-end cosmetic item players can earn by building a ship within the game. This ship isn’t just for show – it’s a fully functional, personal vehicle players can control, and also use as a place to meet and socialize with others.
In China, owning this skin is seen as a sign of prestige. Players frequently share videos on platforms like Bilibili and Douyin, showcasing the ship and coordinating their outfits to display it.
The high cost is due to the game’s gacha mechanics. Players can’t directly buy the items they want; instead, they have to purchase in-game currency and use it to try their luck on a ‘banner,’ hoping to win the rare item they’re after. This is similar to how popular games like Genshin Impact work.

The Celestial Immortal outfit and ship are the rarest items in the game, making them very difficult to obtain. However, even if you have bad luck, the game guarantees you’ll eventually receive them through a system called “hard pity.”
Chinese players have figured out how much it costs in real money to guarantee a rare item in the game, according to a report from Gamersky. They calculated that if you have no luck early on, it could cost around 300,000 RMB (about $42,000) before the game’s system finally guarantees you’ll get it.
Most cosmetics are priced similarly to other premium brands, costing between $20 and $30. However, this particular cosmetic is quite expensive and will likely stand out due to its high price.
