Paris Jackson recently shared in a social media video how years of drug use severely harmed her health.
In a video shared by a TikTok fan account on Sunday, Michael Jackson’s 27-year-old daughter revealed that drug use had caused a hole to develop in her nose.
I never really talked about this before, but it’s something people sometimes notice,” Jackson started. “I have a pretty loud whistling sound when I breathe through my nose. It’s caused by a hole in the cartilage that separates the nostrils, which is called a perforated septum.
The singer showed her fans what was happening inside her nose by using the flashlight on her phone. The video clearly showed the inside of her nostrils like a lit-up tunnel.
She realized a whistling sound she occasionally makes when breathing through her nose was audible in an older video she’d uploaded.
The Cleveland Clinic explains that a perforated septum is simply a hole in the cartilage that divides the two nostrils. This cartilage is called the septum.

As a lifestyle expert, I often talk about taking care of your body, and that includes understanding potential risks. The wall between your nostrils – your septum – is actually made of cartilage, bone, and soft tissue. Unfortunately, it’s delicate, and things like drug use, especially inhaling substances like cocaine, can really damage it, causing tears or even piercings. It’s a serious issue that can lead to long-term health problems, so protecting your nasal septum is vital.
Sometimes, holes in the nasal septum aren’t from a deviated septum at all. They can also happen due to overuse of nasal sprays, injuries, exposure to harsh chemicals, infections, autoimmune diseases, or even tumors.
Individuals with a hole in their septum might need antibiotics to prevent or treat infections, and moisturizing products to keep their nasal passages comfortable.
Doctors can either place an artificial button inside the empty space or perform surgery to fix the problem. However, most people can live with this condition, as it’s usually not severe enough to need extensive treatment.
Paris Jackson has openly discussed her history with drug use and recently explained the piercing in her nose. She confirmed it’s from a past drug habit and has been managing the resulting condition for roughly seven years, since she was around 20 years old.
Toward the end of the video, Jackson looked into the camera and warned, ‘Don’t do drugs kids.’
But the performer wouldn’t allow herself to stick with a total anti-drug message.
She explained, ‘Whether people choose to use drugs or not, everyone will ultimately face the experiences life has in store for them.’ She added that she wouldn’t tell anyone how to live their life.

However, she added, ‘I don’t recommend it because it ruined my life.’
Jackson, who marked five years of being sober earlier in the year, was reluctant to have surgery to repair the perforation. She was approaching six years of sobriety and worried the pain and recovery process could trigger a relapse.
She explained that after such a serious surgery, strong pain medication is necessary, and she really doesn’t want to deal with taking it.
In January, Jackson marked five years of sobriety, revealing she had previously struggled with a heroin addiction before getting clean.
‘hi, i’m pk and i’m an alcoholic and a heroin addict,’ she wrote on social media.
Today is my five-year anniversary of being clean and sober from drugs and alcohol. I’m incredibly grateful – gratitude doesn’t even begin to cover how I feel. Being sober is the reason I’m able to smile today, she shared.
Honestly, I’m just so grateful I get to live. I get to pour my heart into music, and feel everything – the absolute bliss of my dogs and cat, even the gut-wrenching pain of heartbreak. I get to really feel things, you know? To grieve when I need to, to laugh until my sides hurt, to lose myself in dance. And I’m learning to trust again. Even something as simple as the sun on my skin feels amazing. Life just…happens, whether I’m struggling or not, but today, today I’m choosing to be fully present for it all.
She had openly talked about her struggles with drug abuse and depression. In a 2017 interview with Rolling Stone, she revealed that some of her tattoos cover up scars from both drug use and self-harm.

She shared that she had tried to end her life on several occasions and later found help at a therapeutic school in Utah, which she felt was very beneficial.
She explained that she’s changed a lot. ‘I was really struggling,’ she said, ‘going through typical teenage difficulties, as well as battling depression and anxiety on my own, without anyone to help.’
According to a Rolling Stone report, she was doing well – reportedly sober and happier than ever before – and had only occasionally given in to cravings for menthol cigarettes.
She also refuted claims that she went back to rehab in 2018 following Demi Lovato’s hospitalization for a drug overdose.
She tweeted that she hadn’t needed to go to a clinic to understand the importance of health, explaining that she’d already experienced the loss of friends to overdose and didn’t need a near-death experience to realize the value of staying healthy.
In 2019, she responded to a report claiming she’d sought treatment for emotional issues, saying the media was, as usual, overstating things.
She explained that she’d stepped away from work, social media, and her phone because things had become overwhelming. She emphasized that everyone needs a break sometimes, but she’s now feeling happy, healthy, and better than ever.
Jackson’s video documenting her path to sobriety started with old footage showing her previous lifestyle – clips of her partying and drinking, including what looked like a bottle of Jameson whiskey.

Okay, so amidst all the fun party videos, she also put in these moments where she just… broke down. Like, she’d be all curled up, looking so vulnerable and sad. It was so unexpected, and honestly, it just made me feel for her even more. I couldn’t stop watching, trying to figure out what was going on with her. It was heartbreaking and captivating all at once!
Then, Jackson decided to go clean, as shots of her numerous sobriety chips appeared.
The clean and sober Jackson enjoyed various activities with her friends as she pursued her passion.
She could be seen singing on stage, going rock wall climbing, and hiking.
She also shared a kiss with her then-fiancé Justin Long as they explore a cave together.
The video ended with Paris appearing relaxed and happy, spending time with her family and friends, and her dog.
She concluded the video by expressing deep gratitude to everyone who supported her, whether it was at the start, during the process, or throughout the entire five years. She stated they know who they are and she feels indebted to them, finishing with a thankful acknowledgement of God.
Jackson and Long ended their engagement and split in July of this year.
