While Monster Hunter Wilds includes a neat raid boss borrowed from Final Fantasy 14, players aren’t letting that overshadow the ongoing technical problems. Recent Steam reviews suggest this addition isn’t enough to fix the performance issues that have plagued the game since it launched.
The collaboration between Final Fantasy 14 and Monster Hunter Wilds is progressing nicely, bringing Omega Planetes – a version of the recurring Final Fantasy super boss – into Capcom’s monster-hunting game. That’s neat. However, it’s not enough to overshadow the issues with the game’s performance on PC. Cool. But not cool enough to distract from PC performance woes.
User reviews on Steam have significantly decreased since the crossover update launched on September 29, 2025. As of today, 77% of the nearly 5,000 reviews submitted in the past month are negative. Specifically, 770 users gave the update a thumbs down on its release date.
One player, who has spent 187 hours playing the game, described the visuals as unacceptably poor, stating that achieving 40 frames per second was surprisingly good, even with the lowest graphics settings. They added that while they would have enjoyed the Final Fantasy collaboration, it was causing significant performance issues and overheating their computer!
One player, who has spent nearly 50 hours with the game, noted that after eight months, it continues to struggle with the same performance problems it had at launch, and there don’t appear to be any significant fixes planned. They wrote, “it looks like Capcom are more focused on selling extra content and cosmetics than addressing the core issues affecting the game.”
Only last month, Capcom stated they would address the performance issues in Monster Hunter Wilds with a significant update soon. They explained, “While we’ll keep making smaller improvements over the next few weeks, we’re aiming for Free Title Update 4 this winter to deliver a comprehensive solution. This will include optimizations for both the CPU and GPU, and we’ll follow that up with further improvements,” said the publisher.
