One gathers XRP has been having a bit of a wobble. Not a fainting spell, mind you, more a prolonged, slightly undignified stumble. Apparently, it’s lost a good twenty per cent of its value since reaching a peak in mid-July – a sum which, one suspects, represents a somewhat optimistic view of its inherent worth to begin with. 🙄
It’s now hovering near a ‘crucial support level’ (a phrase which always sounds dreadfully final, doesn’t it?), which will presumably determine whether it continues its decline into the financial abyss or enjoys a brief, illusory respite. And, rather predictably, the ‘whales’ – those enormous, largely unaccountable entities who clearly operate according to rules entirely their own – are behaving with their usual, perplexing capriciousness.
A fortnight ago, they were unloading XRP with the enthusiasm of unwanted relatives at a summer fête: 470,000,000 tokens, gone in a flash. One imagined champagne corks popping in offshore accounts. Then, wouldn’t you know it, they’ve reversed course, accumulating another 340,000,000. Over $950 million, apparently. A trifling sum, naturally. One assumes they’re simply rearranging the deckchairs on the Titanic, but one detects a flicker of something resembling hope amongst the market analysts.
Ali Martinez – a name one must learn to pronounce with a barely-concealed sneer – suggests $2.76 is the line in the sand. If it falls below that, well, one shudders to think. Another chap, going by the rather unfortunate moniker of CRYPTOWZRD, wants to see it above $2.94. Honestly, these people and their numbers! It all feels terribly arbitrary.
The entire affair is, frankly, exhausting. One longs for a simpler time, when currencies were backed by something tangible – gold, land, a decent reputation. Now it’s all algorithms and speculation and the whims of digital leviathans. 🍷
The big question now: can $XRP hold $2.76 support?
