US Prosecutors Say HashFlare Co-Founders Deserve 10 Years in Prison – No Mercy!

So here we are, folks. Two Estonian guys, Sergei Potapenko and Ivan Turogin, who decided to kickstart the whole “crypto mining” thing with HashFlare, are about to get sentenced. And guess what? The prosecution’s not buying the whole “we didn’t do anything wrong” routine. Nope. They’re pushing for the full 10-year sentence. I mean, who saw that coming?

Apparently, the co-founders pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit wire fraud. Nothing too shocking there, right? That’s what they do – big plans, big scams. But now, the defense has the nerve to ask for “time served.” Yeah, because a couple of years of “time served” makes up for all the “we’ll give you your money back” promises that turned out to be empty. Classic move!

But the prosecutors? Oh no, they’ve got receipts. They’re saying the defendants are trying to “discredit” the victims, saying there was no loss, but their expert witness? Yeah, that expert is apparently using data that the guys *admitted* was fake. Oops. Talk about a misstep!

Crypto Scams!

Now, get this. The defendants claim they paid back $400 million in crypto. Right, sure. Because handing over *some* money makes up for everything, right? But prosecutors aren’t buying it. They’re calling HashFlare a straight-up Ponzi scheme. Ouch, that burns.

Oh, and don’t forget this little nugget – these guys were arrested in 2022, extradited to the US in 2024, and have been out on bail since July. They pled guilty in February. What a timeline! They must have some really good lawyers.

Order to “Self-Deport?” Seriously?

Hold onto your hats. Apparently, the US Department of Homeland Security decided it’s time for these guys to “self-deport” before sentencing. I mean, it’s all part of that big ol’ “Let’s Deport Everyone” agenda. What are the chances the judge will be swayed by this whole immigration thing? We’ll see.

CryptoMoon reached out for comments from Potapenko’s lawyer, but guess what? No response yet. I mean, they’re busy preparing for a 10-year vacation, right?
