It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a blockchain in possession of a good upgrade must be in want of a temporary disruption. Such is the case with the esteemed Polygon, which has recently embarked upon a significant enhancement to its proof-of-stake (PoS) network, necessitating a most urgent alert to its users.
In a communication of the most modern sort, the Polygon team has tweeted to inform the world that the Polygon PoS Heimdall v2 Migration is now in progress, with the deployment window expected to last for the next three hours. “Mainnet migration is now in progress with the deployment window expected for the next 3 hours,” the team announced, with all the gravity of a gentleman announcing his intention to propose.

During this period, the Polygon team has kindly advised its users that they might find themselves unable to use the Polygon Portal for canonical bridging or the Polygon staking app for staking, a situation that one can only hope will not lead to any broken hearts or lost fortunes.
Users are thus implored, with all the earnestness of a lady in distress, to avoid these actions during the migration to prevent the horrors of failed transactions or asset issues. Normal operations, it is assured, will resume following the three-hour upgrade time frame, much like the return of a long-absent suitor.
Earlier, the illustrious Binance, a platform of considerable repute in the crypto world, issued a notice that it will suspend token deposits and withdrawals on the Polygon (POL) network to support the network upgrade and ensure an optimal user experience, a gesture that can only be described as most considerate and gentlemanly.
Polygon Heimdall v2
Heimdall v2, a name that conjures images of Norse gods and guardians, is in fact a modernized and revamped consensus client that stands at the heart of the Polygon PoS network. Much like its predecessor, it manages validators, handles block producer selection, facilitates spans, orchestrates the state sync mechanism between Ethereum and Polygon PoS, and addresses other essential aspects of the system, all with the grace and efficiency of a well-ordered household.
There are, however, several differences between Heimdall versions 1 and 2, including base64 encoding changes. The data encoding format has been changed from Hex encoded to Base64 encoded, a transformation that one can only imagine would have delighted Mr. Darcy with its elegance and precision.
The upgrade has an impact on the validator signing key, a matter of no small importance. To sign transactions in Heimdall v2, validator signing keys must be imported into the keyring, a task that might seem as daunting as preparing for a grand ball, but is, no doubt, equally necessary.
In Heimdall v2, the first transaction of each block will include the encoded vote extensions, a detail that, while perhaps not as thrilling as a carriage ride through the countryside, is nonetheless a significant improvement in the system’s functionality.
