I’m genuinely excited for The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power to thrive, yet that excitement doesn’t relate to the show itself. This new adaptation of The Lord of the Rings has breathed life into the tales of Middle-earth’s Second Age on screen, but its approach has sparked debate. In summary, I’ve found myself quite captivated by “The Rings of Power”. Unfortunately, if “The Rings of Power” is canceled, there might not be many opportunities for another series in this universe to be made.

It’s widely known that fantasy television series tend to be expensive. If Amazon’s “The Rings of Power” doesn’t manage to complete its five seasons, it seems doubtful that any other Lord of the Rings TV shows will be produced in the near future. This would certainly be disheartening, as television is arguably the ideal medium for bringing Tolkien’s works to life.

It’s clear that Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings films are cherished, yet they didn’t have enough screen time to fully convey the intricate story. I was ecstatic when I heard Amazon Prime Video was producing a series, and I hoped that The Rings of Power would offer more tales from Middle-earth. Other stories like Beren & Luthien, The Fall of Gondolin, Ainulindalë, and several others call for this format, but if the current Lord of the Rings TV show doesn’t succeed, my dream won’t come true.

It’s often brought up that THR stated that The Rings of Power season 1 had a completion rate of merely 37%. Yet, it’s seldom discussed how this stacks up against other shows. To give you an idea, the incredibly popular Stranger Things season 1 boasted a completion rate of 43%. As you can see, raw data can only tell us so much. However, there appears to be a keen interest in finding faults with The Rings of Power.
