It’s said that tech titan Apple Inc. might employ artificial intelligence for accelerating the development of the proprietary chips that drive their devices.
Last month at the ITF World Conference held in Belgium, Apple’s vice president of hardware technologies, Johny Srouji, stated during his speech that one important takeaway for the company was the necessity of utilizing the most advanced tools when designing their chips. According to Reuters, this information was reported on Thursday based on a video recording of the talk.
According to Srouji, EDA (Electronic Design Automation) firms play an indispensable role in managing the intricate challenges of chip design. He also emphasized that advanced AI technologies, particularly those capable of generating designs, could significantly reduce the time required for design work and potentially increase productivity by a substantial margin.
According to the report, two major players in the field of electronic design automation, namely Cadence Design Systems and Synopsys, are considering integrating Artificial Intelligence into their services as well.
During his address, Srouji detailed the progression of Apple’s chip development, tracing it back from the initial iPhone processors up to the current ones that drive Mac desktops and the upcoming Vision Pro augmented reality gadget.
Apple already using AI
According to Srouji’s statements, it appears that Apple is considering incorporating AI technology for the first time, aiming to expedite the chip-design process for its engineering squads. Contrary to this assumption, AppleInsider has previously reported that Apple has been implementing AI in various aspects of its designs for numerous years already.
Third-party companies leverage AI
According to AppleInsider, for quite some time now, Apple has been utilizing the services of external Electronic Design Automation (EDA) firms, who have been incorporating artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning into their chip design processes.
Synopsys asserts that employing generative AI can pave the way for innovative methods in chip designing, a field crucial to Apple’s operations.
Microsoft job cuts
Currently, reports from Reuters indicate that Microsoft, a leading software company, intends to reduce its workforce by thousands, primarily in the sales department. This move comes as part of Microsoft’s strategic initiative to optimize its staff while focusing more on artificial intelligence, an area where they are making significant investments.
The business is ramping up its spending on Artificial Intelligence (AI) to stay on par with rival companies in an rapidly evolving marketplace where AI is being increasingly used in goods and services.
In the coming years, Andy Jassy, CEO of Amazon, predicts that the deployment of generative and autonomous artificial intelligence systems could lead to a decrease in the overall number of Amazon employees.
