Elden Ring Nightreign: How To Defeat the Centipede Demon

Confronting the Centipede Demon from Elden Ring as Nightreign might initially seem daunting, but for newcomers, employing strategic approaches will help you triumph over this formidable foe.

As a dedicated fan, I can’t help but feel a chill run down my spine as the Centipede Demon, a terrifying foe hailing from Dark Souls, emerges once more from the ruins of Elden Ring: Nightreign. This bipedal beast is a chilling testament to FromSoftware’s knack for creating nightmares, with its writhing centipedes oozing menace from every pore. But fear not, as daunting as it may seem, toppling this boss can prove surprisingly straightforward if you’re armed with the right strategies.

Overview of the Centipede Demon in Elden Ring Nightreign

In my gaming world, I’ve encountered the Centipede Demon as an early-game boss during missions like Sentient Pest, Equilibrious Beast, and Night Aspect. This guy’s got quite the arsenal, able to unleash area-of-effect damage up close and keep ranged fighters like me at bay with long-range attacks. But here’s the kicker: even for a beginner on their first night, this boss isn’t too tough. With a team of three, regardless of our levels, we can take it down comfortably.

Weaknesses of the Centipede Demon

Similar to many Dark Souls Night 1 bosses, the Centipede Demon’s primary vulnerabilities lie in its sluggish movements and attack pace. Its attacks are easily predictable, making it less challenging for ranged combatants to dodge around it (kite). Additionally, the Centipede Demon is particularly weak against status ailments such as bleed, frost, and holy, along with elemental attacks. As expected, it shows resistance towards fire damage.

Hitting the central body part of the giant centipede, where there are two rows of flaming spouts, will momentarily weaken the boss. When the boss is weakened, take advantage by attacking its head again for a powerful, critical blow.

Instead of targeting the tail or other limbs of the centipede as they can detach and attack you, it’s best to focus your attacks on the boss’s head and legs. The severed limbs are independent and might retaliate, but damaging them doesn’t affect the overall health of the boss, so it’s better to avoid attacking them.

Tips To Easily Defeat the Centipede Demon

  • Melee fighters can stay under the Centipede Demon to hack away at its legs and midriff. However, look out for the loudly telegraphed leg stomps, fire explosions, and jumping attacks.
    • Stay behind the boss’s legs while facing its head for the best position. It will allow you to avoid most attacks and provide ample warning for the rest.
  • Ranged fighters need to watch out for the demon’s long-range attack. When the demon pulls back one of its centipede arms and angles toward you, it will extend the centipede at an astonishing speed to strike you across the battlefield. Dodge the attack by rolling as soon as the centipede is launched.
  • When the boss jumps, dodge away from its position to avoid the ground slam or flame attack.
