Dragon Quest Smash/Grow is the latest mobile game from SQUARE ENIX. It’s a roguelite RPG now available on Android and iOS. Players could try out an early version in a closed beta last year, and pre-registration opened in March.

Dragon Quest Smash/Grow comes with co-op gameplay and multiple challenge modes

Smash/Grow is a fast-paced action game with roguelite elements. You’ll fight through hordes of enemies using classic Dragon Quest attacks, and each playthrough will be different thanks to randomly changing power-ups called “Blessings” that let you customize your character.

Fans of the series will recognize familiar foes like slimes and drackies. This time, you’ll be joined by a new robotic companion named Roly, who travels with you throughout the game. He’s voiced by Toshio Furukawa, the talented actor known for voicing Piccolo in the Dragon Ball series and Myst in Dragon Quest: The Adventure of Dai.

The game also features a vocations system, allowing you to customize your team with different classes and improve their abilities as you play. Beyond the main storyline, you can enjoy cooperative quests with up to three other players, as well as challenging content like boss battles and special gauntlet modes.

The Dragon Quest series is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year, and it’s still one of Square Enix’s most popular role-playing game franchises. Over the years, several Dragon Quest games have been released on mobile devices, including recent titles like Dragon Quest Tact, Dragon Quest X Offline, and Dragon Quest Monsters.
