BBC acquires wartime drama “drenched in adrenaline” that “really grips” – and there’s a twist

The BBC has purchased the rights to a new wartime drama called The Sentinels. It’s described as a thrilling, action-packed series, but with a science fiction element that moves beyond a simple historical recreation.

This series is based on the graphic novel collection Les Sentinelles by Xavier Dorison and Enrique Breccia, which was originally published in four volumes from 2009 to 2014, and is produced for television by Guillaume Lemans.

The eight-episode series first launched in France, running from September to November. Now, the BBC has announced it will broadcast the show on BBC Four and make it available to stream on BBC iPlayer later this year.

Wow, I just heard about The Sentinels, and it sounds incredible! Nick Lee from the BBC said it’s a totally gripping war drama, really full of action. Apparently, it started as a graphic novel, but Canal+ has done an amazing job turning it into a high-quality TV show. I’m definitely going to check it out!

Viewers will love the unique combination of steampunk and futuristic action in this series. It’s a surprisingly emotional and complex story, reminiscent of Frankenstein, that’s sure to captivate you. Get ready for something fresh, exciting, and relentlessly entertaining.

Alongside Lemans, Xabi Molia and Raphaëlle Richet wrote the series. Thierry Poiraud and Édouard Salier directed it, and the cast includes Louis Peres, Thibaut Evrard, Kacey Mottet-Klein, Carl Malapa, and Olivia Ross, among other actors.

The story begins at the start of World War I, where Gabriel Ferraud, a severely injured soldier, is chosen for a secret French military project. The goal? To build super-soldiers – humans with extraordinary abilities.

Gabriel receives a strange serum that gives him incredible powers – super strength, speed, and the ability to withstand injury. He then becomes part of the Sentinels, a special team of enhanced soldiers created to fight on the battlefield.

As the war gets more intense, Gabriel discovers a shocking secret that could change everything, according to the show’s description. The series is described as a fast-paced blend of science fiction, action, and spy themes.

When The Sentinels was released in France, it received mostly positive feedback from audiences. Currently, IMDb shows a user rating of 6.3 out of 10 based on 745 ratings. One viewer gave it a 7/10, specifically praising its high production quality.

The plot has some unexpected turns, and it’s interesting to see how everything unfolds. You might find yourself questioning whether all the different storylines will connect. The film’s old-fashioned atmosphere and exciting action make it an enjoyable experience overall.

The Sentinels will come to BBC Four and BBC iPlayer.
