Taylor Frankie Paul reveals her mental health diagnosis after being caught in domestic violence scandals

Taylor Frankie Paul is sharing her experiences with mental health challenges after the domestic violence allegations caused her season of The Bachelorette to be cut short.

On Sunday, 31-year-old Paul shared a series of posts on Instagram, using photos and captions to hint at personal struggles she’s been facing.

Paul has been dealing with post-traumatic stress disorder since 2024 and believes it may be getting worse due to recent challenges in her life.

The reality TV star, originally from Colorado, said she was diagnosed with PTSD around two years ago, and now believes she likely has complex PTSD.

A video surfaced on March 19th showing Paul physically attacking her ex-boyfriend, Dakota Mortensen, 33, while her young daughter was nearby. Due to this disturbing footage, ABC quickly canceled the upcoming season of her show before it even began airing.

Daily Mail has reached out to a representative for Paul for further comment on the story.

Paul mentioned receiving diagnoses from multiple therapists and shared a collection of selfies taken when she was going through a difficult period.

Paul explained that healing isn’t always pretty. He’s always been open about his own imperfections and believes acknowledging them is a crucial part of the process, and that with time, things will improve.

The reality TV personality, known from The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives, seemed to be referencing her arrest in February 2023 for domestic violence. She later pleaded guilty to aggravated assault and received a six-month sentence.

As a lifestyle expert, I’ve always believed in cherishing your personal freedom. But I recently faced something truly awful – not once, but twice – and on a much larger scale the second time around. It really took a toll on my life, and honestly, it’s something I wouldn’t wish on anyone, not even those who brought it to light. It was a heavy price to pay for simply living my life.

Paul shared her experiences with various difficulties and explained how her faith has helped her overcome them.

It sounds strange to say, but as the pain hit me, I actually found myself thanking everything and everyone. It was a moment of complete release. We still have a long journey ahead, but I’m finally, truly free from a really awful situation I felt trapped in for so long. It’s like a weight has been lifted, and I can finally breathe again.

It feels like I’ve been through the absolute worst – like someone watched me fall apart and then deliberately made things even worse. Honestly, it’s a miracle I’m still standing, and I’m definitely a bit broken. But I truly believe God kept me going, and He sent people – a whole team of support – to help me through it all.

Paul shared that the outpouring of support she’s received from strangers online has been incredibly moving, even bringing her to tears. She expressed gratitude to everyone who offered kindness, even without knowing the full story.

Paul indicated she was on the right track, referencing a numerological pattern she’d noticed before. He added that she feels protected spiritually and believes she’ll be okay because of these signs.

Paul believes a higher power played a role in the positive outcome of his case. He received a call on the seventh day after a seven-week wait, informing him that all charges had been dropped. He sees the timing as significant and symbolic, and while relieved, he’s apprehensive about what the future holds, noting that he’s now focused on taking things one step at a time.

Paul shared with her over 2.6 million followers her plan to regain her health.

I’m so excited to follow Paul’s journey! He’s really focusing on the fundamentals – how he eats, moves, rests, and even how he’s retraining his nervous system. What I love is he’s committed to sharing everything, the tough parts and the progress. He says if he’s open about when things are at their lowest, he’ll definitely share how he’s building himself back up, and that’s incredibly inspiring to me.

Paul’s former partner, Mortensen, also shared an update online this weekend, explaining he’s taking a break from public life to prioritize caring for their son, Ever.

‘Over the past several weeks, I’ve taken a step back and had time away from the chaos,’ Mortensen said. ‘That space has been a breath of fresh air and has given me clarity.

I’m now prioritizing what’s most important: my son and building a secure, positive future for him.

I’ve been following this situation closely, and I was struck by Mortensen’s recent statement. He admitted he wasn’t perfect through everything that happened, and honestly, it felt really genuine. He specifically said he wished he’d removed himself from the negativity earlier – that he regrets not breaking the pattern sooner. It’s good to see him taking responsibility and recognizing that.

I made mistakes and I’m truly sorry for the pain I’ve caused. However, I don’t think the public understanding of what happened is accurate.

‘It does not reflect the full context of what occurred to the impact it has had on me and my son.’

Mortensen explained he’s decided to prioritize his family, personal development, and well-being, and will be focusing his time and energy on those things.

I’m leaving behind something that wasn’t good for me and looking forward to a brighter future. I really appreciate all the support I’ve gotten, and I’m determined to make the most of it and live up to everyone’s faith in me.

Mortensen explained he was prioritizing spending time with his son and supporting others facing similar challenges.

Right now, my main focus is being the best dad possible to Ever,” he explained. “Eventually, when the time is right, I want to use my experiences to help others going through similar challenges.

Mortensen added a link and number to the National Domestic Violence Hotline.

Following the release of a video featuring Paul on TMZ, Disney Entertainment Television announced they were pausing production on the new season of The Bachelorette. They stated their priority was to support the family involved.

Paul has three children: eight-year-old daughter Indy and five-year-old son Ocean, who she shares with her ex-husband, Tate Paul, and two-year-old son Ever, who she shares with her ex-boyfriend, Mortensen.

Video from Paul’s 2023 arrest shows Mortensen attempting to convince the police to arrest him instead of her.

A TMZ video published on March 23rd shows Jake Paul and Jordan Mortensen arguing just as police arrived at the door.

Police separated the two as an aggressive Paul tried to pour herself a water and began crying.

Mortensen informed the officers who arrived that Paul was struggling and briefly described the abuse he claimed she inflicted on him.

Mortensen said he’d been through so much he couldn’t even describe it, and showed visible injuries he said were caused by Paul.

At that point, Paul re-emerged, and told Mortensen to leave immediately.

When Paul was arrested, Mortensen offered to take her place in jail, explaining she simply wanted Paul to receive the help she felt was needed.

Oh my god, I still can’t believe it. Paul… he pleaded guilty to that assault back in August of last year, the one from February. It’s just… heartbreaking. Apparently, they dropped four other charges as part of the deal, which, honestly, I’m glad about. He’s been on probation ever since, and it’s supposed to be over in August 2026. I’m just counting down the days until it’s all behind him. I just want him to be okay.
