An Australian social media personality has apologized to her fans after accidentally leaving her child alone in their locked hotel room while on vacation in Bali.
Taleigha Skye, a social media personality from Perth, left her six-month-old baby unattended while she went to get a foot massage.
Some people have compared the current situation to the case of Madeleine McCann, a three-year-old who went missing while on vacation with her family in Portugal in 2007.
Taleigha used a video monitor in a now-deleted TikTok video to watch her son while walking to an appointment.
The content creator faced immediate backlash online after her post was shared on the Facebook page TeaTime, as many people compared it to the widely publicized disappearance of the McCann child.
Madeleine McCann disappeared from her family’s vacation apartment in Praia da Luz, Portugal, while her parents were eating dinner at a restaurant close by.
One Facebook user expressed concern, asking if it’s common for a mother to leave her baby (under one year old) unattended in a hotel room while on vacation in Bali with her other children.
‘She’s left the room and walked away to have a 30 minute foot massage done?
‘It seemed she walked some distance too… it looks like she’s staying in a resort or similar.
‘If this is normal practice, how do you not have a literal panic attack at doing this?’
One user commented on the discussion, saying the situation reminded them of the Madeline McCann case, referencing reports that her parents had left her unattended in their hotel room.
‘Did we not learn from Madeline McCann?’ another person wrote.
Another person commented, questioning why any parent would allow this to happen, especially considering the Madeline McCann case. They expressed being deeply disturbed by it.
One TeaTime user immediately thought, ‘I wouldn’t even be able to do this back home in Australia, never mind somewhere else in the world,’ they said.
A follower of Taleigha, known for her posts about motherhood and daily life, expressed affection but said, ‘This isn’t the right fit.’
Taleigha also mentioned that while she was gone, her husband and oldest son had been riding a quad bike.
After receiving a lot of negative feedback, Taleigha responded to the situation with a post on her Instagram Stories.
‘I want to address what’s been circulating online,’ she began.
‘I made a poor decision, and I take full responsibility for it.
Even though I was close to the locked room and being watched, I understand that didn’t actually make things safe.
Let me just share a bit of background – we actually have a wonderful nanny here in Bali, but she wasn’t free on that particular day. I’m not trying to make excuses, just offering some context for what happened.
I realize how wrong my actions were, and I promise this will never happen again.
This mom of two frequently posts videos online as part of the popular ‘boy mum’ trend, often featuring her sons, including her four-year-old.
She welcomed her second son, who she also shares with her partner, Ash, in October.
