Elden Ring: Nightreign Players Will Tell FromSoftware How They Feel About Multiplayer Games

For game enthusiasts focusing on multiplayer experiences, the forthcoming “Elden Ring: Nightreign” is a new frontier for developers FromSoftware. This novelty becomes even more significant when considering that their next title, “The Duskbloods,” will also be exclusively multiplayer. In an interview with GamesRadar, director Junya Ishizaki expressed that the studio anticipates players to guide them on their thoughts about these types of games.

According to Ishizaki, he’s unsure if the studio’s shift towards multiplayer games will be successful in the future. However, he thinks that Elden Ring: Nightreign will help FromSoftware gauge player feedback on the new direction. In his words, Elden Ring: Nightreign will “provide us with insights into how players feel about this type of game and this new hurdle we’re facing.

Additionally, he discussed the general trajectory that Nightreign symbolizes in terms of gameplay, likening it to a rollercoaster ride of emotional highs and lows. Since it presents a more rapid-fire approach to gameplay compared to Elden Ring, he highlighted that this design element is one of the factors contributing to Nightreign’s unique identity. He described the quicker pace as having a sporty vibe, with an underlying sense of speed and looseness.

Ishizaki explained, “Nightreign is an abridged role-playing game. We’ve compressed it into a brief timespan so that it’s packed with thrilling and intense moments. Our goal was to make the sessions engaging, dynamic, and filled with highs and lows, all happening within a single session. This was quite challenging for us to accomplish in such a short span of time, but we believe users will find this new challenge rewarding and enjoy the unique gameplay flow.

Previously from Sony, Shuhei Yoshida has weighed in on FromSoftware’s shift towards multiplayer gaming in their productions. When the announcement of _The Duskbloods_ was made initially, Yoshida stated that the game would present a new challenge for the studio. Additionally, he suggests that since director Hidetaka Miyazaki is not fond of player-versus-player (PvP) gameplay, _The Duskbloods_ could bring a more inviting approach to the multiplayer genre.

Yoshida mentioned that it represents a fresh endeavor for FromSoftware to develop a multiplayer game. Since Miyazaki-san isn’t particularly fond of player versus player (PvP) games, FromSoftware intends to create an experience that is more welcoming for those who may feel apprehensive about participating in PvP gameplay.

Excitedly counting down the days until this week’s release of Elden Ring: Nightreign! FromSoftware has been teasing us with captivating trailers, one even featuring the haunting melody of “Bring Me to Life” by Evanescence from the 2000s. Another trailer introduced us to a playable character – the enigmatic Revenant – and her extraordinary summon-based abilities that harness the power to transform fallen foes into helpful Spirits for future battles. Can’t wait to dive in!
