The American comedy series DMV, created by Dana Klein (who also worked on Friends), is now streaming in the UK. All ten episodes of the first season are currently available to watch for free on ITVX.
I’m so excited about this new sitcom! It’s got a really funny cast – Harriet Dyer, Tony Cavalero who I loved in The Righteous Gemstones, Tim Meadows, and Molly Kearney – and it’s all set at the DMV in East Hollywood. It sounds hilarious!
This new sitcom highlights the hilarious chaos of working at the Department of Motor Vehicles. Dealing with difficult customers and questionable drivers makes every shift a wild ride for the staff, as the show’s description promises.

I’ve been checking out the show, and it’s currently sitting at 65% on Rotten Tomatoes. Most critics seem to agree it’s a really enjoyable, light watch, and they’ve been saying great things about the actors – the whole cast is super talented!
According to The Boston Globe, the show DMV moves quickly and features strong performances from Meadows, Dyer, and Kearney. While sitcoms may be becoming less common, there’s still a need for lighthearted entertainment and broad comedy, and DMV delivers that.

Collider said that DMV “largely succeeds at its premise thanks to its strong ensemble of characters“.
Okay, so Variety said that DMV doesn’t immediately grab you, but they think it has potential! They pointed out that once you really get to know the characters and understand the world they’re in, it could actually become a really fun show to watch every week. I’m hoping they’re right – I’m definitely willing to give it a chance!
Common Sense Media described it as a disorganized and lighthearted portrayal of a U.S. government agency that many people dislike but recognize is important.

Despite getting good reviews, the sitcom was cancelled by CBS after only one season, and the last episode will air on May 11th.
CBS Entertainment Chief Amy Reisenbach explained to Deadline that CBS has high standards for its shows, and that’s why they decided to cancel DMV.
We combine all the viewing figures, and then we have to make difficult choices about which shows to cancel to create space for new ones.
