Geena Davis stunned fans with how young she looked when she unexpectedly joined Sabrina Carpenter on stage during Coachella on Friday. Her appearance was a big surprise!
The Academy Award-winning actress looked remarkably youthful and smooth-skinned while performing a long speech from inside a vintage car, portraying an aged version of the 26-year-old musician.
As a longtime fan, I, like everyone else, was absolutely stunned to find out that Davis is 70! She seriously doesn’t look a day over maybe… well, much younger than 70, honestly. It’s incredible – she looks years, even decades, younger than her age!
A fan was amazed by Geena Davis’s youthful look at Coachella, tweeting, “#geenadavis is 70! Iconic and flawless! #coachella #sabchella.”
Oh my gosh, seeing her on stage was incredible! And it wasn’t just any performance, it was packed with stars! Madonna actually showed up – can you believe it?! – and then, just when I thought it couldn’t get any better, Terry Crews took his shirt off! It was a night I’ll never forget, honestly. I was completely losing it!
Many fans were thrilled to see Davis make a surprise appearance, especially because Susan Sarandon, her co-star from ‘Thelma & Louise,’ had performed the same part during Carpenter’s first weekend at Coachella.
Similar to Sarandon before her, Davis had long blonde hair during her monologue while sitting in the driver’s seat, intentionally echoing the look of the character played by Adrienne Barbeau in The Fog.
While her previous colleague had worn a pristine white coat just days earlier, Davis chose a sophisticated brown jacket for her appearance.
The actress gave a powerful speech about lost youth and the appeal of celebrity while performing from inside a vintage white car.
Davis said, as reported by The Wrap, that he wished his niece could have seen him perform – perhaps at a concert, in a large arena, or even overseas. He was portraying an older version of the main performer at the time.
I could have easily flown her and her parents in, had them stay nearby, and taken them to the fanciest restaurant in town. But it’s probably for the best she didn’t see that side of me – it would have been awkward, she explained.
People on X (formerly Twitter) and at Coachella were surprised and excited to see Davis perform with Carpenter.
‘GEENA DAVIS IM OBSESSED,’ read one over-the-top post.
‘I f***ing love Geena Davis, always have. this is so f***ing crazy,’ gushed another fan.
One commenter was really excited about having Susan Sarandon appear one weekend and Geena Davis the next, calling it unbelievable!
Honestly, I’ve been losing sleep thinking about why Carpenter chose Sarandon and Davis for her show! Everyone’s buzzing about what message she’s trying to send with those two together. It’s like she’s deliberately trying to tell us something, and I’m desperate to figure it out! It’s brilliant, really.
One fan suggested that Sabrina’s performance wasn’t just inspired by culture and history, but also by the iconic women who came before her – actresses like Susan Sarandon and Geena Davis, and singers like Madonna. They believe she’s a dedicated student of the arts, clearly influenced by these predecessors. #sabchella
Some viewers previously felt Sarandon’s delivery of the monologue was too slow, but those criticisms didn’t seem to apply to Davis’s performance.
The Wrap reports that the monologue was heavily cut, likely to make it more appealing to viewers. It seems Carpenter decided to remove some of the original lines to create a more accessible performance.
One fan noticed a difference in how two actresses portrayed the same character. Susan Sarandon’s version last week felt reflective and a bit wistful, while Geena Davis’s performance today came across as more warmly nostalgic. The fan was thrilled to see both iconic actresses bring their unique interpretations to the role, calling it ‘so good!’
Many fans raving over Davis’s appearance noted her role in Thelma & Louise.
Susan Sarandon and she starred as the main characters in the 1991 movie directed by Ridley Scott and written by Callie Khouri.
Susan Sarandon played Louise, a carefree waitress, and Geena Davis played Thelma, a wife trapped in a difficult and controlling marriage. They were friends who embarked on a journey together.
After Louise shoots a man attempting to assault Thelma, the two women flee, embarking on a series of crimes, including robbery, before a dramatic standoff at the Grand Canyon.
Both actresses were up for the Best Actress award at the Oscars. The movie also earned nominations for directing, cinematography, and editing. However, the film only won one Oscar, which went to Khouri for the original screenplay.
