Genshin Impact Version 6.5 Stygian Onslaught Guide: Boss Mechanisms
1. Radiant Moongecko
Radiant Moongecko is a powerful boss found in Nod Krai. When the fight begins, it immediately creates nine protective shields that each last for 25 seconds. To avoid a significant difficulty increase, your team must destroy all nine shields within that 25-second timeframe. Shields are especially vulnerable to damage from Geo, Lunar Crystalize, Overload, and Claymore attacks. If the shields aren’t destroyed in time, the boss becomes much more resistant to all types of damage (increasing resistance by 70%) and will unleash an area-of-effect attack.
If we destroy the boss’s shield within 25 seconds, it will take some damage, become much weaker to Geo attacks (losing 60% resistance), and be stunned briefly. After the stun wears off, the boss will enter an Enhanced Radiant Cocoon state. While in this state, all players will have their critical hit rate, damage bonus, and healing effectiveness reduced by 100%, 50%, and 40% respectively.
If a character is fully healed, their critical hit rate and damage both increase by 15%, and the boss will be stunned for 15 seconds. This makes this boss the most challenging one in the Stygian Onslaught.
2. Tenebrous Papilla
This boss is from the Natlan region and has a unique ability when you start fighting it. It immediately creates a shield and begins charging for 13 seconds. To break the shield, you need to inflict 72 elemental damage – but if you’re playing as a Nightsoul character, you only need to deal 24 Nightsoul damage. If you manage to break the shield within those 13 seconds, the boss will be stunned for 15 seconds and become 50% weaker to all types of attacks.
If you don’t destroy the shield fast enough, the boss will use a powerful attack that instantly defeats your character.
3. Frostnight Herra
When the boss enters combat, it activates its Gloomveiled state, gaining 130% resistance to all damage types. This phase lasts until the boss is hit 50 times – each instance of Lunar reaction damage counts as 6 hits. Once it’s taken 50 hits, the boss will change its elemental type to match the element it received the most damage from during that phase.
If this enemy takes Lunar Reaction damage, it loses its elemental type and becomes Elementless. To counter it effectively, use a team built around Lunar reactions, or a team with two strong damage dealers (DPS).
Genshin Impact Version 6.5 Stygian Onslaught Guide: Best Teams
This section covers the most effective team compositions for each boss fight. We’ll also briefly explain how to leverage your character’s abilities to counter each boss’s unique mechanics. If you’re unsure about what each character can do, please refer to the team guides for individual character roles.
1. Radiant Moongecko
| Main DPS | Sub DPS | Support | Support |
|---|---|---|---|
| Zibai | Linnea | Columbina | Illuga |
This team excels at defeating this boss. Zibai, Linnea, and Columbina can quickly break its shield within the time limit. Equip Columbina with the Prototype Amber weapon, and hold onto Linnea’s ultimate ability for when the boss enters its Enhanced Radiant Cocoon phase. After that, simply follow your standard attack pattern.
2. Tenebrous Papilla
| Main DPS | Sub DPS | Sub DPS | Support |
|---|---|---|---|
| Chasca | Fischel | Durin | Cithlali |
| Kinich | Emilie | Durin | Iansan |
Okay, so for this team comp, you don’t really need to overthink things – just play your normal rotation. If you don’t have this team, you can break the boss’s shield really fast with a Burn and Swirl combo. But if you’re not running that, just focus on using a character who can dish out elemental damage quickly. It’s all about consistent damage!
3. Frostnight Herra
| Main DPS | Sub DPS | Sub DPS+Support | Support |
|---|---|---|---|
| Flins | Ineffa | Columbina | Sucrose |
| Neffer | Columbina | Lauma | Nahida |
This boss uses attacks that hit a wide area, so if you struggle with dodging, bring a healer to your Neffer’s team. If you don’t have characters from Nod Krai who can activate Lunar Reaction, use two characters with different elemental types in your team. When the boss is covered in Gloomveil, switch to your other elemental damage dealer, and when the boss becomes resistant to that element, switch to your second damage dealer.
Final Thoughts
The bosses in Genshin Impact’s Version 6.5, especially the Stygian Onslaught, are more challenging due to their complex abilities. However, using the characters we’ve recommended will make defeating them much easier.
