Elden Ring Nightreign’s Wylder: The Coolest New Character You Must Know
The hotly anticipated title, Elden Ring Nightreign, is being developed by FromSoftware right now. This exciting game was unveiled at the 2024 Game Awards and is slated for release on May 30 of this year. Instead of sticking to its traditional single-player RPG format, Elden Ring Nightreign will incorporate a multiplayer aspect, leaving fans intrigued about which new characters they might encounter in the game.
In the game “Nightreign”, players will have the opportunity to select their preferred character to control. Among these characters is one named Wylder, occasionally referred to as John Nightreign. Let’s delve deeper into his background.
Wylder is Elden Ring Nightreign’s anchor point
In simpler terms, “Elden Ring Nightreign” is a spin-off of the highly praised 2022 game, “Elden Ring,” designed for cooperative play. While it does have a single-player mode, it’s primarily meant to be enjoyed by teams of three players working together. The game is set in a procedurally generated version of Limgrave called Limveld. In this world, players can select various characters to control, who are referred to as Nightfarers.
Among these characters, there’s Wylder, who stands out as one of the most charismatic figures in the Soulsborne universe. Wylder is versatile and built for adaptability, making him suitable for various roles. He boasts a well-rounded defense, attack, and speed stat, which makes him an appealing choice for newcomers. However, despite being straightforward to handle, achieving mastery over Wylder can be challenging due to his equipment setup.
Wylder is equipped with a mighty greatsword, a shield called a buckler, and a crossbow attached to his wrist. His abilities include Sixth Sense, a passive trait that appears to nullify all physical damage for a single strike. Additionally, he possesses Onslaught Stake, an attack using the wrist-mounted crossbow to fire an explosive shot.
Yet, one standout feature of Wylder is his versatile grappling hook, capable of being fired from his crossbow. This grappling hook serves multiple purposes such as navigating terrain, ensnaring foes, and bridging gaps with adversaries.
Besides his impressive arsenal and combat abilities, Wylder exudes style as well. He dons a striking blue tunic embellished with magical symbols over understated medium armor. His attire is completed by a winged helmet akin to Malenia’s, but unlike Batman, Wylder has a protective visor covering his mouth and chin.
FromSoftware is bringing in a cooperative twist to the OG Soulslike gameplay

In Elden Ring Nightreign, Wylder’s introduction isn’t merely about introducing a new character; it signifies a change in how FromSoftware is broadening the entire universe of The Lands Between. Despite being beginner-friendly and reasonably balanced, Wylder remains a complex character that promises a rich and fulfilling experience for seasoned players.
His collection of tools allows him to be versatile in any situation, while the fresh mechanisms aren’t just reminiscent of FromSoftware’s renowned combat complexity, but hint at Nightreign introducing a fresh level of strategic, cooperative play within its game mechanics.
The communal approach to the Soulsborne formula forms the heart and central concept of creating “Nightreign“. As the game is about to debut, it won’t feel like entering a stunning world designed by FromSoftware; instead, this time around, we, as players, will collectively mold it, one battle at a time.
