The first season of Fallout debuted in 2024, with the second following in December 2025. In between filming Fallout, Purnell appeared in a gripping, but often overlooked, thriller series about a serial killer. A second season of that thriller is on its way, making now a great time to watch the first season.

Starz and Sky’s series Sweetpea, starring Ella Purnell as Rhiannon Lewis, is based on the novel by CJ Skuse. Released in late 2024, the show moved Purnell from a post-apocalyptic setting to a gritty and bleak version of London. Sweetpea quickly became a popular hit for Starz and has remained a consistent favorite ever since. As of today, it’s been in the streamer’s weekly Top 10 list for over a year! Other shows frequently found in the Top 10 include Outlander, The Couple Next Door, Power, and Spartacus: House of Ashur.

Rhiannon Lewis, known as “Sweetpea,” has struggled with the lasting effects of being bullied as a child, leading her to become a recluse. After a devastating week that includes the loss of her father and her dog, her suppressed emotions explode. The situation worsens when her sister hires her former bully – now a real estate agent – to sell their childhood home, without Rhiannon’s consent. Fueled by rage, Rhiannon begins targeting those she believes deserve punishment. To cover her tracks, she must also mislead her coworkers at the local newspaper and the police, who are unknowingly investigating a series of murders.

‘Sweetpea’ and ‘Fallout’ are Polar Opposites

Lucy McClean from Fallout and Rhiannon Lewis from Sweetpea are very different people, especially when it comes to how they interact with others. Lucy is optimistic and prefers to resolve conflicts through communication, avoiding violence whenever possible. Rhiannon, on the other hand, struggles to express her feelings openly, leading to pent-up emotions that sometimes explode in anger.

Ella Purnell is showcasing her versatility as an actress with roles in both of these shows, which premiered close together. In the second season of Fallout, her character, Lucy, starts to embrace violence after spending time with The Ghoul (Walton Goggins), reflecting the brutal nature of the post-apocalyptic world. It makes you wonder if there’s a little bit of Lucy’s resilience – or even a touch of her darker side – in all of us.
