Epic Fail: $7.5M Game Shuts Down! 😱

So, there’s this company, Tatsu Works, right? And they had this grand idea for a blockchain game called Tatsumeeko: Lumina Fates. Apparently, it was supposed to be the next big thing. They even got $7.5 million in venture capital. I mean, who wouldn’t want to throw money at a game with a name like that? 🤪

Anyway, these Singaporean geniuses at Tatsu Works decided to pull the plug on their MMORPG-lite masterpiece. Three years and $7.5 million later, they’re calling it quits. I guess “lite” also applies to the lifespan of the game. 😂

📜 Embracing What’s Next For Tatsu

Today, we’d like to share a difficult decision. The Tatsu team has discontinued the development of Tatsumeeko.

However, we’re still here.

With sharper focus and hard-won lessons, we’re working on Project: Wander, a new experience designed…

According to their blog (because that’s how you break earth-shattering news these days), the playtests didn’t exactly set the world on fire. Apparently, the “promise” wasn’t enough to justify, you know, actually finishing the game. Who knew? 🤷‍♀️

“While the concepts were exciting and there were many moments of promise, the end results didn’t give us the confidence to move forward in a way that would be sustainable. We know this news may be disappointing for those who were excited about Lumina Fates, and we deeply appreciate the time, passion, and anticipation you invested in its journey.”

Tatsu Works

Tatsumeeko: Lumina Fates (try saying that five times fast) was supposed to run on Ethereum and Solana blockchains. NFTs were involved, because of course they were. It was all about unique digital assets and a “new business model.” Sounds thrilling, doesn’t it? 🤔

The game was built on the supposed success of Tatsu.GG, a Discord-based platform with millions of users. So, basically, they thought they could turn Discord into a goldmine. Good luck with that. 😒

“We remain committed to creating experiences that live, breathe, and evolve with their communities. With Project: Wander already in development, we’re aiming to bring your digital third places to life like never before. It will serve as a humble collaborator to your creativity.”

Tatsu Works

But fear not, dear investors! Tatsu Works is pivoting back to what they’re “good at”: building games within existing communities. They’re also promising to turn your useless NFTs (like Meekolony Passes and Aethereal Parcels) into… something else! Utility! For upcoming projects! It’s like finding a coupon for a store that doesn’t exist anymore. 🤑

Oh, and in case you forgot, they raised $7.5 million for this whole fiasco. DeFiance Capital, Delphi Ventures, Bitkraft Ventures… the usual suspects. Binance Labs and Animoca Brands were also in on it. I guess they all thought they were investing in the future. Turns out, it was just a very expensive present. 🎁
