Well, folks, it appears that some retirement folks in 14 mighty states of Uncle Sam’s union have gone and thrown a hefty $632 million into what they call Strategy stock. Now, I reckon they’re tryin’ to get a whiff of that Bitcoin prosperity without actually havin’ to buy the coin. Clever folks, them! This move kicked off just one quarter ago and already gained more steam than a Mississippi river steamboat.
Strategy Shares Fill Pension Portfolios
According to a fella named Julian Fahrer (who seems to know his onions), these public funds threw an extra $302 million into the pot in the first quarter of 2025. That’s an increase of about 44%—nearly half again! Strategy’s tactic of jumpin’ into Bitcoin has turned its stock into a sort of doppelgänger for the real thing. Trustees worried about custody or rules can just trade these shares like they would any old stock in their collection—no fuss, no muss.
Coast To Coast Buying Spree
Now, California’s leadin’ the pack with 694,119 shares worth about $276 million. Florida’s got 221,860 shares, bringin’ in around $88 million, and Wisconsin’s got 127,528 shares, worth about $51 million. Seems like everyone’s grabbin’ a slice of that crypto pie!
NEW: 14 US states have reported $632m in $MSTR exposure for Q1, in public retirement and treasury funds.
A collective increase of $302m in one quarter. The average increase in holdin’ size was 44%.

North Carolina’s got 107,925 shares (around $43 million), Ohio’s got 80,381 (about $32 million), and Texas is holdin’ 72,595 shares (roughly $29 million). Other states like Arizona and New Jersey are dabblin’ in as well. You can see this trend poppin’ up from Salt Lake City to Raleigh like wildflowers in springtime.
Rapid Growth In Some States
Utah’s retirement system is growin’ faster than a weed in July—up an astonishing 184%, now with 25,287 shares. Colorado’s not sittin’ still either, risin’ 67%. Florida, Texas, and Louisiana all climbed aboard with 38%, 33%, and 30% increases respectively. Looks like some boards are gettin’ aboard the crypto train faster than a squirrel after acorns!

State Boards Push Crypto Boundaries
By golly, reports tell us that lawmakers in 26 states have filed 47 bills related to crypto this session. About 37 of them are still kickin’. New Hampshire already passed a law in May allowin’ up to 5% of its treasury to go into Bitcoin—just like that! 🎉

Meanwhile, in Arizona, voters said yes to using unclaimed assets for crypto, but shot down the idea of direct Bitcoin buyin’ by the treasury. Florida’s got similar plans hangin’ in limbo in committee. Some politicians are willin’ to let public funds dance with Bitcoin while others are keepin’ a stiff upper lip.
Risk And Reward On The Horizon
Now, pension folks need steady returns like a river needs its banks to meet them future payouts. Bitcoin’s been hoppin’ and poppin’ with gains, but she’s got a reputation for takin’ wild jumps—like a buckin’ bronco! Strategy’s shares tend to amplify those leaps and bounds. If Bitcoin takes a nosedive, these mighty state funds might just have a hard fall, yessiree.
On the other hand, if Bitcoin throws a big ol’ rally, these holdings could make the pension folks look as smart as old Mark Twain himself. For now, they’re just testin’ the waters, takin’ a sip of crypto’s sweet juice while they keep one foot on the safe side of the creek.
