5 best movies added to Netflix, BBC and more this week including Tom Cruise’s “masterpiece” thriller

We’ve all been there. You plan a relaxing movie night to unwind after a long week, but end up endlessly scrolling through streaming options, and suddenly it’s too late to actually watch anything.

Looking for something new to watch? Digital Spy has rounded up five of the best movies recently added to streaming services. We’ve also included a few extra suggestions in case our top picks aren’t quite what you’re in the mood for – from a critically acclaimed Tom Cruise thriller to timeless classics, we’re confident you’ll find something you’ll enjoy.

Here are five movies to add to your watchlist from this week’s new streaming additions.

Best movie new to Netflix this week

I honestly think you can watch Ron Howard’s Apollo 13 anytime – it’s such a great movie! But I’m kinda glad it showed up on streaming after the Artemis II crew got back safely. It just feels…right, you know? Watching a story about a tough space mission while they were still out there would have been a little too stressful!

If you were fascinated by the recent Artemis II mission and love space exploration, this film remains one of the most realistic and compelling movies about space you’ll find – perfect for a weekend watch.

Best movie new to Prime Video this week

The movie Collateral, famous for featuring Tom Cruise as the villain, remains a thrilling and captivating watch today, just as it was when it came out in 2004. The story centers around Vincent, a hitman played by Cruise, and a cab driver, played by Jamie Foxx, who unknowingly picks him up as a passenger.

Michael Mann’s thriller is both critically acclaimed, earning an 86% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and a favorite among audiences, with some calling it a landmark achievement in American filmmaking. We certainly agree with that assessment.

Best movie new to BBC iPlayer this week

If you enjoy the character Jackson Lamb, you’ll be pleased to know that Gary Oldman delivers an equally compelling performance in Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy. Though George Smiley is a different type of spy, Oldman is just as brilliant in this film as he is in Slow Horses.

The 2011 film based on John le Carré’s novel features a fantastic cast, with stars like Tom Hardy, Benedict Cumberbatch, Colin Firth, and Stephen Graham. While the plot can be a little confusing, it’s a really good movie.

This week on BBC iPlayer, you can also enjoy these films: Legend, Rear Window, The Good, the Bad and the Ugly, Yesterday, and Horrible Histories: The Movie.

Best movie new to ITVX this week

You can now stream Jurassic Park for free! While this timeless classic from Steven Spielberg hardly needs an introduction, free streaming makes it even better.

Even after six follow-up films, the original movie remains the best of the bunch. If you’d like to revisit the series, all of them are available on Sky Cinema or NOW with a Cinema membership, except for Jurassic World Dominion which isn’t currently streaming in the UK.

Also new to ITVX this week: Liar Liar, Kung Fu Panda, Tremors

Best movie new to Channel 4 this week

If you enjoyed Benedict Cumberbatch in his latest role, check out Four Lions. This hilarious dark comedy centers on four British Muslim men who attempt to carry out an attack, but they’re surprisingly inept at it.

This movie isn’t for everyone, but Riz Ahmed and a fantastic cast deliver surprisingly funny performances even in the most serious scenes. Though released over 16 years ago, its sharp satire still feels relevant and it’s a film you won’t easily forget.

Also new to Channel 4 this week: Soul, Violent Night, Call Jane, Not Okay

The latest issue of Living Legends, a beautifully illustrated 100-page tribute to Sir David Attenborough, is now available! You can purchase it at newsstands or online.
