Sheridan Smith’s new BBC series, The Cage, will premiere soon, and a first trailer has just been released. The show, created by Tony Schumacher (known for The Responder), is a thrilling crime drama about Leanne, played by Smith, a casino worker who starts stealing money to protect her family. She teams up with her dishonest boss, Matty (Michael Socha), and together they’re likely to attract unwanted attention from both the police and a dangerous local crime boss.
You can watch The Cage on BBC One starting April 26th, with new episodes released each week. Or, if you prefer to binge-watch, all five episodes will be available to stream on iPlayer right away on the premiere date.
From the creators of Poor Things and Normal People comes a new series featuring Barry Sloane (known from House of the Dragon) as Gary Packer, Geraldine James (Dope Girls) as Nancy Packer, and Shaun Mason and Mona Goodwin (Extraordinary) as Alan and Trace.

The cast also includes Anton Bibby as Thomas Chapel, Freya Jones as Emily Flynn, Sophie Mensah as Fen, Louis Emerick as Paul, Sue Jenkins as Shelagh Flynn, and Eileen O’Brien as Nanna.
Filmed in Liverpool and the surrounding Merseyside area, The Cage tells the story of Leanne, who struggles with the tough choice of stealing from her workplace.
What to Read Next
Facing the possibility of losing her house, a casino cashier begins stealing money from work, only to discover her boss, Matty, is also involved in the theft.
Sharing this big secret brings the two of them closer, but their lives become tangled with both the police investigating a casino and the criminals being targeted by the theft.

The story hints at conflict: Leanne will be torn between different sides, while Matty struggles with his own personal issues. Both will need to make smart choices to succeed.
Following her BAFTA-nominated role in last year’s fact-based series I Fought the Law, Smith will next appear in the thriller Two Birds. She plays Izzie Cornwell, a police officer who moves to Australia after the death of her husband.
You can watch The Cage on BBC One starting April 26th at 9pm. All episodes will also be available to stream on BBC iPlayer that same day.
