CinemaCon attendees got a first look at footage from the new film on Wednesday. The sequel brings back Jason Statham as Adam Clay, a former government assassin, and is already generating a lot of excitement.
According to reports from CinemaCon, the Beekeepers – a top-secret intelligence group formerly associated with Clay, designed to protect the U.S. and operating outside normal government control – have turned against the country. They’ve kidnapped the president and are threatening to kill anyone who tries to stop them.
Jeremy Irons returns as Wallace Westwyld, the ex-CIA Director, who tells Clay he’s the only hope for ending the chaos. The trailer then cuts to Clay in intense action, using everything from machine guns and flamethrowers to…bees as weapons.
The Beekeeper Became a Sleeper Hit for Amazon in 2024
The action film Beekeeper came out in January 2024 and quickly became a surprising success for Amazon MGM Studios. Made with a $40 million budget, it earned over $162 million and was well-received by both movie critics and general audiences.
In The Beekeeper, Adam Clay, a former spy, is enjoying a peaceful retirement as a beekeeper when his friendly landlady, Eloise Parker, tragically takes her own life. She had been tricked by an online scam that stole millions from the charity she led. Now, with both the scammers and the FBI after him, Clay must act fast to avenge her death.
I was really excited to hear they’re making a sequel to The Beekeeper! Initially, it sounded like Kurt Wimmer was coming back to write the script, which I thought was great. But then I found out Umair Aleem, who did the action movie Kate on Netflix a few years ago, ended up taking over the writing duties instead.
David Ayer wasn’t able to direct the sequel due to scheduling conflicts with his next film, The Heart of the Beast, which stars Brad Pitt. Instead, Timo Tjahjanto, who directed Nobody 2, took over as director for The Beekeeper 2. Filming for the action sequel lasted two months, wrapping up at the end of 2025.
Joining Jason Statham and Stephen Irons in The Beekeeper 2 are returning cast members Emmy Raver-Lampman and Bobby Naderi, who reprise their roles as FBI agents Verona Parker and Matt Wiley, along with Jemma Redgrave as President Jessica Danforth. New to the sequel are Yara Shahidi, Pom Klementieff, and Adam Copeland.
More Jason Statham Action Movies Are Coming Soon
Before the release of The Beekeeper 2, Jason Statham stars in Mutiny, hitting theaters this August from Black Bear Pictures. A trailer for the film was released last week.
In the action thriller Mutiny, Cole Reed (Jason Statham) finds himself wrongly accused of murdering his wealthy employer. He sets out on a dangerous journey to clear his name and get revenge, but soon uncovers a much larger international plot.
Jason Statham is currently filming a new movie based on J.J. Connolly’s 2011 novel of the same name. Though the book is written as a follow-up to Connolly’s 2000 novel, Layer Cake (which was made into a 2004 film starring Daniel Craig), the new film will be a completely separate story.
I’m really excited to see Jason Statham step into the role previously held by Craig – he’s playing this mysterious drug dealer known only as X. And the cast around him is incredible! You’ve got Vinnie Jones, Jason Isaacs, Babs Olusanmokun, Camila Mendes, Ben Foster, Jonny Lee Miller, and Raúl Alejandro all involved, which promises a seriously great movie.
The Beekeeper 2 is scheduled to hit theaters on Jan. 14, 2027. The first movie is .
