Verity Trailer Shows Bloody Confrontation Between Anne Hathaway & Johnson

Colleen Hoover’s upcoming movie adaptation was previewed at CinemaCon 2026, and early reactions suggest it will be much more intense and serious than many fans anticipate.

Okay, so I just finished reading about this movie, Verity, and it sounds intense. It’s based on a really popular book, and it’s about a writer named Lowen, who’s kind of down on her luck. She gets this amazing opportunity to finish a book series for this super famous author, Verity Crawford, who’s been in an accident and can’t write anymore. But as Lowen starts working on the book and getting to know Verity’s husband, Jeremy, she starts finding out some seriously creepy stuff. Apparently, things aren’t what they seem at all, and it sounds like a total mind-bender!

The new trailer, shown at Amazon’s CinemaCon event on Wednesday, introduces Lowen as she arrives at the Crawford house and discovers the famous author, Verity, is paralyzed. However, things don’t seem right, and when Lowen asks Jeremy what’s truly happening, he’s evasive, increasing the suspense. As Lowen hears Verity’s life story, flashbacks reveal a fiery and complex relationship between Verity and Jeremy, suggesting a hidden and troubled history.

Odd things start happening, like a creepy person hanging around the house, and the situation quickly becomes much more intense.

One of the most startling parts of the trailer shows Verity unexpectedly moving her head, hinting that she isn’t as helpless as everyone thinks. This is followed by an even more unsettling conversation with Verity’s child, who calmly implies their mother is still somehow communicating with them. Things quickly escalate when Verity attacks Lowen, biting her and causing her to bleed—a moment that leads into a fast-paced sequence of confusion, fear, and mental breakdown. The trailer concludes with a chilling declaration from Lowen to Verity: “I’m going to take it from you. All of it.”

A sneak peek shown at CinemaCon 2025 revealed the film will be a suspenseful and psychological thriller, focusing on the complex connections between characters and hinting at disturbing secrets. The preview featured strange, dreamlike scenes with Anne Hathaway and ended with a mysterious encounter between two characters and a police officer, indicating the story is much more than just a love story.

In a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight, Colleen Hoover shared that she’s watched an initial version of the Verity movie and is eager for fans to see it. She described 2024 as a significant year, highlighting the release of both Reminders of Him and Verity in October, and expressed her excitement for readers to experience the film adaptation.

When asked about potential surprises in the upcoming movie, Hoover just replied, “Yeah,” but remained tight-lipped about the details. This suggests the film, an eerie thriller, might differ from the original story, keeping audiences guessing until its release.

Verity is due out October 2, 2026.
