Oblivion Remastered’s Origins: The Ultimate Character Creation Game-Changer
Starting most CRPGs involves crafting your own character, following a brief introductory scene that sets the stage for the game world. Games such as The Elder Scrolls series, including the latest remastered version of Oblivion, place a great emphasis on creating a well-rounded character with a rich backstory, distinct personality, and clear motivations. This is crucial because the vast openness of games like Oblivion Remastered can be daunting, making it challenging to stick with one character if they’re not engaging. This is particularly true for The Elder Scrolls series, as the dialogue options may not be robust enough to fully flesh out a character solely through gameplay interactions.
In the revamped version of “Oblivion Remastered,” numerous aspects have been modified, with significant improvements made in graphics, battles, and leveling mechanisms. A notable alteration can be seen right from the get-go, during character creation, where an Origin system has been introduced for the first time in the “Elder Scrolls” series. This Origin system marks a substantial change as it offers players a foundation to build their characters based on their chosen background.
Oblivion Remastered’s Origins Provide a Simple Solution to a Long-Time Problem
In a simpler and more natural way of expression, The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered tackles an issue by incorporating an Origin selection on one of the character creation screens. Each race now has two Origins, determined by their geographic location and the cultures of the people residing in that region. Each Origin modifies the character’s stats, with some focusing more on personality, while others emphasize magical or martial abilities.
One advantage of including Origins in Oblivion Remastered is that it offers a deeper understanding of Tamriel and the Hero of Kvatch. While the Imperial Hero hails from Cyrodiil, other races originate from their respective home provinces. Each Origin provides a brief overview of where the Hero comes from and their upbringing, explaining the skills they possess. This is particularly beneficial for new players, but also for veteran Oblivion players who haven’t delved into other Elder Scrolls games, especially Elder Scrolls Online.
The Problems That Oblivion Remastered’s Origins Solve
Many Other CRPGs Include Origins
As a gamer, I find that the foundation for my characters in games like Mass Effect and Dragon Age Origins is reminiscent of BioWare’s style. In Mass Effect, I’m given three character backstories to choose from, while Dragon Age Origins offers six. This setup gives my character a place within the game world, serving as a launchpad for creating an engaging and intriguing backstory. It’s particularly crucial in The Elder Scrolls series, where all protagonists begin their journey as prisoners with no past. By providing some structure, it becomes simpler to let my creativity flow and imagine reasons why my character is imprisoned, how they ended up far from home, and what skills they possess.
Oblivion’s Origins Come at a Price
In the latest update for “Oblivion”, it seems they’ve done away with sex-based advantages, which is great news for players! Instead, the new Origin feature offers benefits across various character attributes, enhancing roleplaying experiences too. For those who play “Elder Scrolls Online”, creating a character from your preferred Tamriel region is now possible. This new system makes it easier for both novice and experienced players to establish characters deeply rooted in Tamriel, with a sense of belonging in Cyrodiil.
