‘We are profoundly thankful for your lasting devotion’: Elden Ring celebrates 30 million copies sold just a month before Elden Ring Nightreign
As a dedicated fan, I can’t help but feel proud and amazed as Elden Ring surpasses another monumental achievement, selling 30 million copies within three years of its release. This remarkable accomplishment is not lost on FromSoftware, who are clearly thrilled and celebrating early, with Elden Ring: Nightreign set to hit the shelves just a month from now.
As an ardent admirer myself, I can’t help but express my heartfelt gratitude for your unwavering loyalty, Tarnished. In a recent social media message, FromSoftware echoes the same sentiment: “Your journey is forever illuminated by the Grace of Gold.”
To put it into perspective, let me share some mind-boggling figures. Elden Ring has been an extraordinary success, selling over 20 million copies within a year since its debut, which is truly remarkable. And if that wasn’t enough, its DLC, Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree, sold an astounding five million copies in just a week! It seems that impressive numbers are Elden Ring’s specialty.
It could reasonably anticipate that sales might increase slightly before FromSoftware’s upcoming project, Elden Ring Nightreign. Although Nightreign is set in a composite of Limgrave, it will not be the typical RPG experience players are accustomed to with FromSoftware. Instead, it offers a multiplayer roguelike gameplay where teams of three face off against diverse, largely randomized bosses from various FromSoft games.
Playing Elden Ring prior isn’t strictly essential, particularly given that Nightreign effectively clarifies the diverse character classes and their distinct abilities for players to choose from. However, having previous knowledge of Elden Ring can undeniably enhance your gaming experience.
After finishing Elden Ring, I must admit that during the initial network test, I felt somewhat disoriented when entering this fresh take on The Lands Between for the first time. However, even in my confusion, I quickly understood the need to flee whenever Margit suddenly appeared and seek refuge behind the nearest Site of Grace to enhance my abilities.
Just like other FromSoftware games, Nightreign plunges you headfirst into deep waters right from the start. But it’s not difficult to find your bearings once you acclimate.
1. Elden Ring Ranni Quest: Pursue the Witch (Follow the Witch could seem too direct, this version is more descriptive and engaging)
2. Elden Ring Blaidd Quest: Keep an Eye on the Wolf Man (Wolf man watch could be confusing as it sounds like a passive activity, this version clearly indicates a quest or task involving Blaidd)
3. Elden Ring Nepheli Quest: Assist the Warrior Woman (Warrior woman is more descriptive and gives context to the character’s role)
4. Elden Ring Fia Quest: Seek Cold Comfort (Cold comfort suggests a quest or storyline involving Fia that may have an emotional or personal aspect, making it more engaging)
5. Elden Ring Volcano Manor Quest: Unravel Mt. Gelmir’s Mysteries (Get Mt. Gelmir could be misleading as it sounds like a simple task rather than a quest with various challenges and discoveries)
While some are not enthused about Nightreign, one common criticism is that there could have been more of other game types, as instead, you chose to focus on multiplayer games which many people did not express a need for.
Initially, I harbored doubts about Nightreign before trying it out, particularly when FromSoftware revealed it would accommodate only three players instead of co-op play. As I had previously mentioned, my initial experience was disorienting and somewhat frustrating as my team and I navigated boss battles and avoided a Fortnite-esque storm. However, during my second attempt, everything suddenly fell into place, and just like that, I found myself growing fond of it.
Nevertheless, it’s unlikely that Nightreign will rival Elden Ring’s sales of 30 million copies. While it could perform admirably, I doubt any game can replicate the unique experience of discovering The Lands Between without any preconceived notions.
