Oblivion Remastered player finds rumored Elder Scrolls 6 setting outside map

A player of Oblivion Remastered somehow left the game’s boundaries and discovered several places that looked very familiar, such as Hammerfell – a region that has been widely speculated to be the setting for The Elder Scrolls 6.

Oblivion Remastered, dropped on April 22, has quickly established itself as one of the top games of 2025, garnering massive success in a very short span. In fact, within only its first week, it attracted over 4 million players back to Cyrodiil, with many critics hailing it as one of the finest remasters ever produced.

Although the realm of Oblivion is vast, observant fans have spotted landmarks beyond its mapped borders, such as Skyrim’s Throat of the World. As a result, one player chose to delve deeper and uncovered far more than initially anticipated.

A user on Reddit posted several updates detailing their adventure, revealing that by leaping over an unseen boundary close to Kvatch, they managed to depart from the map entirely. This led them into the area of Valenwood, a region found in Elder Scrolls Online and inhabited by Wood Elves, which turned out to be completely explorable.

The original poster expressed their astonishment upon discovering that almost the entire area depicted on the map was present, despite the lack of detail.

From a distance, it was possible to spot the Summerset Isles, another location within ESO, but unfortunately, we never managed to reach them as they vanished from the map before we could step foot on the islands.

Apparently you can just leave Cyrodiil

It’s quite intriguing that the game character managed to reach the northern border of Cyrodiil and explore the adjoining region known as Hammerfell. Players who were old enough to play Elder Scrolls II: Daggerfall in 1996 may recall this location, and there’s a good chance we’ll revisit it soon.

It’s been widely speculated, but not yet confirmed officially, that Hammerfell could be the location for The Elder Scrolls 6. This theory is supported by the mountainous landscapes visible in the game’s trailer, as well as a Reddit user discovering what appears to be a Bethesda employee’s Pinterest page filled with items related to this region.

Even though the landscape wasn’t exactly teeming with notable spots, I managed to delve into its depths, capturing vistas of verdant valleys and icy peaks, with the majestic Throat of the World standing tall in the backdrop, all for myself.

Despite their efforts to pinpoint the specific coastline shown in the 2018 teaser trailer, they once more failed to reach that location as they became lost navigating the map before getting there.

Despite following logical geographical patterns as per our understanding of Tamriel’s structure, it’s rather astonishing to see such an expansive amount of additional territory lying beyond the explorable region in Oblivion Remastered.

Additionally, there might be more to explore since the user hinted that “the landmass extends beyond viewing range, suggesting it could go on much farther… Although it’s possible there’s nothing of interest here, my curiosity is piqued regardless.

Even though The Elder Scrolls 6 probably won’t be out for some time yet, this short preview gives us an idea of what the eagerly anticipated follow-up might appear like once it’s eventually launched.
