In ‘Greenland 2: Migration,’ the end of the world doesn’t seem so awful

Following a comet that nearly wiped out humanity, Gerard Butler is back as the leader of a strong and resilient family determined to rebuild and forge a new path forward.

On Tuesday, the 80-year-old musician, who describes himself as a lifelong free spirit, offered free access to all of his songs to the people of Greenland. He hopes the music will provide some comfort during a difficult time, given what he sees as troubling actions from the current, and hopefully short-lived, administration.

Every U.S. administration, including the Trump administration, is ultimately short-lived due to the four-year election cycle. Remembering this can help put things in perspective.

Neil Young recently announced on his blog that he wants everyone in Greenland to have free access to his entire musical catalog – all 62 years of it – as a gesture of ‘Peace and Love.’ It’s not quite clear what level of access he’s offering. He has different subscription tiers – a basic one for $24.99 a year, a ‘Rust’ tier for just under $45, and a premium ‘Patron’ tier for $99.99. His message promises ‘highest quality’ sound and ‘music films,’ but the basic subscription doesn’t include those features.

People in Greenland who accept his invitation can get a free yearly renewal as long as they continue living on the island. Young’s team requires cellphone numbers that include Greenland’s country code, which is 299.

Young said he hoped other “organizations” would follow in his footsteps.

He does have a “Heart of Gold,” after all.
