How To Unlock The Unicorn Mount In Oblivion Remastered

In the game The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered, there are numerous choices for mounts, but few compare to the grandeur of the unicorn from Harcane Grove. Its power and elegance make it a standout, being both the rarest and most distinctive horse option during this time in Tamriel.

Since there’s just one magical unicorn to locate and domesticate, it’ll be quite a challenge for you to discover this unique prize. Fortunately, we’ve managed to pinpoint the whereabouts of this hard-to-find creature to help speed up things. But keep in mind, locating it is merely the beginning; making your peers envious by successfully taming it is another hurdle to overcome.

In the realm of Oblivion, the Unicorn continues to be the second swiftest vanilla mount, showcasing remarkable combat statistics compared to other riding beasts.

The Unicorn boasts good speed and strong resilience, but unfortunately, ownership isn’t permitted.

Even though you can swiftly move around on a unicorn using rapid travel, it will invariably stroll off upon dismounting. Moreover, it doesn’t contribute to the tally of your “Number of Horses Owned.

Since you cannot permanently keep the unicorn, you sadly cannot put any armor on it.

In the game, there’s just a single unicorn, and once it’s been eliminated during the Hircine quest, it won’t reappear. So, if you decide to take its horn, you can’t reclaim the ability to ride the unicorn for your entire playthrough.

Where To Find The Unicorn

The Unicorn is available from Level One, as soon as the tutorial is cleared.

In my gaming world, I’d say: “I stumbled upon this place hidden in the heart of Harcane Grove, a tranquil valley nestled where the foot of several hills meet, right in the northwest corner of Bravil, not far from the Upper Nibon River flowing through the West Weald.

As a gamer, I’d say: “The Shrine of Hircine is a convenient spot for me when I need my bearings. If you head 182 steps south from there, you’ll stumble upon Harcane Grove.

How To Catch The Unicorn

The Unicorn is surrounded by a group of nasty minotaurs. With them, you have two options:

  1. Stealthily sneak up on the unicorn using the Chameleon or Invisibility spell.
  2. Attack the minotaurs one at a time.

If you choose to ignore the minotaurs, you must:

  1. Cast the Chameleon or an Invisibility spell.
  2. Sneak up on the unicorn with no weapons drawn.
  3. Mount the unicorn.
  4. Ride away from the minotaurs quickly.

Quite amusingly, it seems that minotaurs have a knack for sticking close to you over quite some distance. Interestingly, they’ll even engage in combat with any humanoid creatures they encounter en route. This means, unintentionally, you might end up clearing out marauder or other enemy camps simply by guiding the minotaurs towards them.

Beware! Guide the minotaurs towards areas with friendly NPCs at your own risk; it could potentially end in an unintended clash or misunderstanding.

If you choose to attack the minotaurs, you’ll want to do it with magic.

Drawing a weapon near the unicorn could make it become frightened, turning it aggressive and impossible to ride.

Eliminate the minotaur first, once they’ve all been dealt with, you’ll be able to get near and ride the unicorn hassle-free.

Even fists count as a drawn weapon around the unicorn, triggering its hostility.
