As a big horror fan, I’m excited to hear that HIM is coming to streaming! It’s hitting the platform right around that fun “halfway to Halloween” mark. It’s only been about seven months since it first came out in cinemas, so it’s cool they’re making it available so quickly. It definitely sparked a lot of conversation when it was released, and I’m interested to see what people think now that they can watch it at home.
The movie HIM will be available on Sunday, April 19th. Justin Tipping, known for Flatbush Misdemeanors, directed the film and also co-wrote the screenplay with Skip Bronkie and Zack Akers. Jordan Peele produced the film with Win Rosenfeld, Ian Cooper, and Jamal Watson. It premiered in theaters on September 19, 2025.
HIM Struggled With Critics’ Reviews
Despite Jordan Peele’s direct involvement, the film HIM didn’t achieve the same level of success as his previous horror movies. It earned a modest box office total and received mixed reviews, scoring 31% on Rotten Tomatoes from critics and 56% from audiences. However, HIM does have a dedicated fanbase, with many viewers believing it’s an underrated gem, and several giving it perfect 5-star ratings in their reviews.
I have a lot of respect for film critics and the important work they do. However, it’s important to remember that one person’s opinion isn’t universal. Sometimes, truly innovative films aren’t immediately understood, and art is always open to interpretation. Throughout my career, I’ve made movies that weren’t initially loved by critics but later became classics. So, instead of listening to others, I encourage everyone to see the film and decide for themselves. Sending love to all!
HIM Is a Unique Genre Mashup
HIM is a scary, mind-bending horror film about Cam Cade, a promising young football player whose career is threatened by a serious head injury. He gets a surprising opportunity to train with the famous quarterback Isaiah White (Marlon Wayans). Cam travels to a remote desert facility, but the training quickly becomes extreme and emotionally damaging. As Isaiah’s control intensifies and grows unsettlingly strange, Cam must decide how much he’s willing to sacrifice to achieve his dreams.
Director Justin Tipping described the project as a unique blend of genres, telling SFX Magazine he saw a surprising connection between sports and horror. He explained that when those elements come together perfectly, it feels like discovering something entirely new – a whole different way of storytelling.
The film HIM features Julia Fox (known from Uncut Gems) as Elsie White, the wife of Isaiah who is a social media influencer. Tim Heidecker (of Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job!) plays Tom, Cam’s manager, while Jim Jefferies (Legit) appears as Marco, Isaiah’s doctor. Former UFC fighter Maurice Green plays Malek, a trainer in the film.
HIM hits Netflix on Apr. 19.
