Recent reports suggest the long-awaited reunion of Marvel’s The Defenders is happening on Disney+, and things are looking promising.
The Defenders is a Marvel series that first appeared on Netflix in 2017. Created by Douglas Petrie and Marco Ramirez, it brought together the main characters from the Netflix shows Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist, starring Charlie Cox, Krysten Ritter, Mike Colter, and Finn Jones in a single story.
While the Netflix series are officially part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, they largely existed separately from the main MCU storyline. They only made a few small connections to the broader universe and instead concentrated on building their own interconnected narratives across the four shows.
After Netflix cancelled its Marvel shows, Marvel Studios brought Charlie Cox back as Daredevil in the series Daredevil: Born Again. Now that the show is halfway through filming its first season, it’s confirmed that Krysten Ritter will return as Jessica Jones. Recent reports also suggest that Mike Colter will reprise his role as Luke Cage and appear alongside Jones in Daredevil: Born Again, marking their official return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
What is the update on Marvel’s The Defenders?
Sources say Marvel Television is starting to create new shows featuring The Defenders.
A source is reporting that Marvel Studios is potentially exploring a ‘Heroes for Hire’ project, focusing on Luke Cage and Iron Fist. It’s currently unknown if this would connect to other former ‘Defenders’ series, or if there are additional projects planned beyond ‘Heroes for Hire.’ This information is just a rumor, so it shouldn’t be taken as fact. There’s also been talk of a new ‘Jessica Jones’ show or special, but Marvel hasn’t confirmed anything yet.
New episodes of Daredevil: Born Again come out every Tuesday, with the season finale airing on May 5th. They’re also already working on a third season.
