The sci-fi series on Netflix, inspired by both War of the Worlds and Silo, is getting ready to launch its second season.
I’ve been completely hooked on this show, The Eternaut! It’s an Argentinian series that first came out in April 2025, and it’s based on a classic comic from 1957. Honestly, it blew up on Netflix when it launched last year – it actually hit number one in 13 different countries and people watched over 58.3 hours of it! Because it was so popular, Netflix quickly renewed it for a second season, which I’m really excited about.
According to a new report from Deadline, Netflix is moving forward with season two of The Eternaut. While filming hasn’t started yet, development is well underway, and the show is currently targeting a 2027 release.
Francisco Ramos, who leads Latin American content at Netflix, says they’re planning a major release for the next season of the show. Here’s what he shared about the status of The Eternaut season 2:
We’re aiming much higher this time around. While pre-production work, like visual effects design, is already underway, we haven’t scheduled filming with the actors yet. This season is significantly larger than the first – it has a bigger budget and a much broader scope and vision.
Originally, the comic book series was only intended to last two seasons, following the conclusion of The Eternaut. However, Ramos says they’re now considering ways to end season 2 that would allow for a possible third season.
I’m really excited about Season 2, and the team is working hard to make sure we deliver on all our promises. We’re also carefully planning ahead, thinking about how we can keep the momentum going and potentially create a Season 3 if everything goes well. It’s a lot to juggle, but we’re determined to make it happen!
Created by Bruno Stagnaro, The Eternaut is a six-episode series set in Buenos Aires during a sudden apocalypse. The story begins after a strange snowfall wipes out most of the city’s population. While thousands survive, they face immense hardship, and it’s soon revealed that the disaster was caused by an alien invasion.
The sci-fi film The Eternaut, starring Ricardo Darín, Carla Peterson, César Troncoso, and others, has received generally positive reviews. With a 95% rating on Rotten Tomatoes based on 19 reviews, critics have particularly praised the actors’ performances and the film’s ability to blend thrilling moments with strong character development.
Fans of shows like War of the Worlds and Silo will enjoy this series, and there’s still time to catch up since it first aired last April. Plus, with potential future seasons planned, the story of The Eternaut is just beginning.
All episodes of The Eternaut season 1 are on Netflix.
